This is a more than an electric transmission pole, since it had power lines coming from different directions, and was located on the edge of a mountain road, meant for drawing power to a small hamlet located nearby as well as for being part of the local electric transmission grid. This was in the Himalayas, as can be seen in the mountain in the background.
A closer look at the wires that distribute our electricity. I have no idea how many kilivolts go through the process.
Meet Jared, one of the RAs in my dorm this year. He's an electrical engineering student, bright, fun to talk with, caring, and above all, awesome. :) As an electrical engineer, he'll be part of the next generation of engineers to fix our 100-year old infrastructure and update it to a smartgrid.

Homestake Mining Company Hydroelectric Plant No. 2 in Spearfish Canyon was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on February 10, 2023. Photograph from 2014.
Completed in 1917, Hydro No. 2 was one of several facilities in a network to generate and convey electrical power to the Homestake Gold Mine. Facing drought years in c.1916, mine superintendent Richard Blackstone wanted to be able to capture power from the same creek twice. The plant was designed by hydraulic engineer F.G. Baum. Additionally, though an industrial building, its Classical Revival architecture offered Homestake the opportunity to communicate the wealth and status of the company along a well-traveled transportation corridor.
This hydroelectric plant is one of the remaining historic buildings to represent the widespread legacy of the Homestake Mine. It is also significant for the role it played in the development of the local power grid industry. Throughout the history of the mine, Homestake both sold power to and purchased power from local utility companies. Hydro No. 2 generated hydroelectrical power for eighty-five years and was a significant part of the local power infrastructure.
The plant was decommissioned in 2003, one year after the mine’s closure.
