This is a more than an electric transmission pole, since it had power lines coming from different directions, and was located on the edge of a mountain road, meant for drawing power to a small hamlet located nearby as well as for being part of the local electric transmission grid. This was in the Himalayas, as can be seen in the mountain in the background.

Clean wind power in Oregon
Oregon has vast wind energy resources. Many projects are underway with most of them being concentrated in rural Eastern Oregon and near the Columbia River Gorge.
While originally estimated to have nearly 5,000 megawatts of potential onshore capacity by the American Wind Energy Association, a comprehensive update of the wind energy potential by state released in 2010 by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory showed that Oregon has potential to install over 27,000 megawatts of onshore wind power.
Installed wind power capacity in Oregon has seen exponential growth in recent years and Oregon now ranks among the top ten states with the most wind power installed.

Heard recently on NPR that there is a large portion of Puerto Rico still without power and the hardships of the people there. This photo (as I walk around my neighborhood power lines) reminds me of how much dependent we are on the power grid. One of those things we take for granted.
