Inspired by the new PostProcess ( www.flickr.com/groups/postprocess/ ) group started by JacobDavis ( www.flickr.com/photos/jacobdavis/ ), this is a reworking of an old image of mine that I always thought had more potential than is shown in the original file (see below)
I haven't quite got the vignette to my satisfaction, and although it is potentially overdone, I'm fairly happy with the result apart from that...
Not the best quality, but this bird is so elusive, I was delighted to get a half-way decent shot. I like the "belly" shot, though. I never knew it had a yellow streak before. Not something you always see on the black-headed grosbeak.
It was far away and in deep shade, and the shot ended up with a lot of noise. I tried to find a balance between noise reduction and sharpness. (If I removed too much noise, the feathers came out smooth.)

Last night, I intended to do some magician! Quite honestly, I went and searched for some presets on the internet and as most of them are for sale, I decided to do it myself!!
What you see to the left is the shot I took with my Canon 40mm Pancake Lens which was mounted on my 7D. Since the weather was cloudy, the saturation is poor and colors are senseless even if you adjust the temperature and W.B. correctly.
Anyway..
I spent about one and a half hour post processing on it. With Apple Aperture, even tiny details are adjustable. Colors, curves and so on. All are in the hand of the photographer in order to make what he/she wants.
Finally, you can see the result in the right side.
The most notable point I'd like to draw is that you will never achieve perfect result till you consider all adjustment of such post-production softwares as a whole. All have strong relation and magical interconnection through which you are able to revive your dead shots.

I frequently stop off at this vintage junked cars yard and take photos through the chain link and over the razor wire defenses. The old paint and rust do well with HDR techniques.
Shot posted as comment about what we do with our shots when we process them. This is the previous shot after processing with Adobe Lightroom.

What is reality: the previous version or this one?
Just curious.
