It is an attempt. I photographed the old pentax. Lens pancolar 50, year 1970? DNG file. DNG is generally better to work with old lenses. Old lenses have different color rendering and PEF format did not work with me. Colors PEF format in postprocessing exaggerated.

I had to stage a photo for the cover of Red Letter Daze this evening about sexual health. We'd decided that birth control was the way to go, but that led to the awkward announcement in the office "Does anyone have birth control that we can borrow?" (which was later followed by "does anyone have colorful condoms?")

We obviously got some and got the photo we needed. Unfortunately birth control is kind of boring looking, so I had to do a lot of poking around in Photoshop to make it look moderately interesting. I ended up going with a lomo/vintage/old style treatment and from what I saw before I left, the cover looks pretty awesome! We'll see on Friday!

Every now and then I will run workshops that focus on one of my interests, such as photography. Today, I instructed a grade ten class and had them do a photo walkabout with an eye to finding interesting abstract compositions in the neighbourhood of their school. These are some of my own efforts from the afternoon.

Post Process adjustments using ACDSee Pro 5 include: increased colour saturation, application of Orton Effect.

I'm in big trouble now. This is my first attempt at post processing and as you all know, it's great fun! Add it to my list of addictions!

(I kept the original below mainly so I could see the difference, but hopefully you will too)

I needed a break from work tonight ~ then I got bored ... So here is the great smoke experiment of 2010 ;o) ...

Photographing smoke and getting a nice crisp image was one of the biggest obstacles here ~ lighting was absolutely key ... the other big obstacle? Now my house smells like coconut incense (and it does NOT smell as good as you think it might) ...

The approach to Spencer Street Station, Melbourne.

Yesterday, Brad ordered a dSLR camera [Canon 450D] for me. I'm not sure when it will arrive. Today, whenever I thought about it, I feel thrilled - like a kid, waiting for Christmas: I can't really imagine what it will be like - I'm nervous and so excited!

Hope everyone's enjoying the weekend.

Happy Purple Saturday!

*BLING*

So before I talk about this shot and what not I just wanted to let you all know that I have just released my first website designed by myself, which I hope you'll enjoy and stuff. The address is www.paulwynn-mackenzie.com so please do check out it :)

Anyway onto the picture, this was taken by Boscombe Pier near Bournemouth, this was the result of a lovely sunset, I have few of these to show you, with this one possibly being my favorite. I have a couple of nice big 13x19 inch prints that my parents wanted of this shot so thats nice :)

I was really trying to play around with the shutter speed a bit on these shots and I like how on this photo it moves from the 3 simple rocks in the foreground into the sea which becomes more eventful (sorta) as you move towards the horizon , with the pier providing a perfect focal point.

Anyway I hope you enjoy this shot (and the return of colour in my stream!) and please also check out my website :)

Separate personal comments and favs are always greatly appreciated :)

A fun, post-processing edit on this image from Columbus Circle in New York, January 2009.

I remember we had a very welcome hot drink here at 'The Shops' after walking in the cold for hours. And while resting, we enjoyed watching the dynamic and eye-catching changing colours on this light installation.

The Shops is housed within the Time Warner Center (now the Deutsche Bank Center) which is a soaring 2.8 million-square-foot landmark with stunning views of Central Park. It opened in 2003.

Outside in the background, is Edward Durell Stone's 1964 building for A & P heir Huntington Hartford. The facade seen is a modern addition and a controversial one.

Trying out a new photo sharing app called Dropico. The rain is one of many effects that comes with the app. For comparison, here's the original photo.

Even though he was crossing the East River in 1856, coming across the Hudson River on Jersey City's Paulus Hook Ferry in 2021, reminded me of these words from one of my very favorite poets, Walt Whitman:

"...Crowds of men and women

attired in the usual costumes,

how curious you are to me!

On the ferry-boats the hundreds

and hundreds that cross,

returning home, are more

curious to me

than you suppose,

And you that shall cross from

shore to shore years hence

are more to me, and more in

my

meditations, than you might

suppose."

This poem was "published as “Sun-Down Poem” in the second edition of Leaves of Grass in 1856 ..."
