Yesterday I ran the school's faculty meeting to talk about design thinking. I made these two sets of sketchnotes to talk about design thinking at our school, and to teach a Post-It Note exercise from dgray_xplane's book, GAMESTORMING. I'd say the day was very successful— in part because of the great visual aids. Notetaking style owes a lot to Mike Rohde's book, Sketchnote Handbook.
Sprint18 was an opportunity to celebrate all the great work everyone across digital government had done so far. And to look at what we'll be doing next.
Running a user experience workshop for a client helps us understand the touch points that customers and staff experience. It's low tech - postitnotes, markers, sweets - and it's the conversation that counts

On April 9 2019, we ran our second Unconference. The day was filled with interesting talks and workshops run by our GDS colleagues.
GDS hosted the first ever International Design in Government Conference to bring the community together in one place for two days full of talks, workshops, breakout sessions and a panel discussion.
This little guy came in while hanging on my clothes after I had went outside. When I found him, I put him on this pad of Post-It Notes and took a macro of him.

Line work in sketch form for a Threadless blogger collaboration with a wrestlers theme. He will join my Daily Coffee series once I color him up but first I needed to save the line work so I can vector him up for the collab.
This shoot went exactly as planned and even though I lost my other origami paper, I realized I could use post-it notes. I imagined this in my mind and it came out the right way. I'm so glad. This looks like magic and that is what I wanted. I can only make lilies for now and I'm not really good a making cranes. I wish I was but I'm not. So maybe you're good at cranes or other shapes. So try out some Origami this week and try to make it come to life if you can or make it come to life in your mind.
Yesterday was 'Everybody Draw Mohammed Day', or at least the first anniversary of 'Everybody Draw Mohammed Day'. As you can see in the image above, I'm seriously awful at drawing.
You'll need a pair to gently-but-firmly pull the wires from the pushbutton connectors. Mini post-it notes were to help me remember which wire connected to which button connector.

In 1968, a scientist at 3M in the United States, Dr. Spencer Silver, was attempting to develop a super-strong adhesive.
Instead he accidentally created a "low-tack", reusable, pressure-sensitive adhesive. For five years, Silver promoted his "solution without a problem" within 3M both informally and through seminars but failed to gain acceptance.
In 1974 a colleague who had attended one of his seminars, Art Fry, came up with the idea of using the adhesive to anchor his bookmark in his hymnbook. Fry then utilized 3M's officially sanctioned "permitted bootlegging" policy to develop the idea. The original notes' yellow colour was chosen by accident, as the lab next-door to the Post-it team had only yellow scrap paper to use.
Taking a break from the holiday selection of mugs to celebrate Friday the 13th with you. There are so many things tragic about this Friday the 13th Themed mug of coffee. I put down so much ink and kept over working each little detail. Serves me right here on this fine Friday the 13th.
Charlie Vero-Martin Unleashes a Brand-New Work-in-Progress Stand-Up Show!
Critically acclaimed Scottish comedian Charlie Vero-Martin is back with a fresh, unpredictable, and hilarious work-in-progress stand-up show, packed with surreal storytelling and absurd observations.
A rising star on the UK alternative comedy circuit, Charlie has appeared on BBC Scotland and Next Up Comedy and was a 2023 finalist for Leicester Square Theatre's Sketch Off and the Funny Women Stage Award.
Charlie's previous solo show, Picnic, enjoyed sold out performances in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leicester, VAULT fest and the Soho Theatre. It was also recommended by the British Comedy Guide and appeared in The Telegraph's best shows and jokes of the Fringe 2023.
Known primarily as a character and improv comedian with a penchant for props and puppets, this work-in-progress marks an exciting chapter as Charlie experiments with a brand-new, stripped back, stand-up set.
If you love comedy that’s smart, silly, and unafraid to take unexpected turns, don’t miss your chance to catch this exclusive look at her original new hour.
Praise for previous solo shows:

One of our workmates was out for a week. Over the course of the week as we talked with his office mate everyone would grab a post it note and start sticking them. A little bit at a time we covered his desk. :)
A mug with soft and rounded edges covered in colorful polka dots of all different sizes drawn just for you. I hope you like it.
A friend of mine in High School had one of these ugly "No Spill" shaped mugs. The extra wide base had a rubberized foam pad on the bottom so you could place it on the dash of your car and it would not move.

The night-light's shadow
Seen every day after dark
Had to capture it
1. A list (photography packing post-it)
2. Something with a strap, or straps (camera bag with unicorn pin)
3. Artificial light (a single night-light)
This chair sits in the bathroom, and is used mainly to safely hold an iPad outside of the bathtub, for the viewing pleasure of one taking a bath.
When not in use, it sits over by the night-light, and whenever you walk into the bathroom at night, this night-light turns on and stays on for a bit.
It's a fun show, and the shadow it casts is mesmerizing, especially when you're half asleep.
Fiddled with the angle of the chair, the light, keeping things in the frame, taking things out. I think this is about as clean as I could get it without moving it to another room. But then it wouldn't be the same.
It needed to be in situ.
