I posted this one several months back, but I am posting it again to advertise it. You can buy this through an ebay auction. It is an 8x10" photo on 16x20" matt. This is a fund raiser for the Coble Family in Ladera Ranch, California. The Coble children, Kyle, 5, Emma, 4, and Katie, 2, died May 4 after a semi-tractor trailer rear-ended the minivan they were riding in on the I-5 in Mission Viejo. They are survived by their mother and father, Lori and Chris Coble.
You can read the family's website for more details and pictures of the kids.
My brother teaches high school in that area, at Tesoro High, and the art teacher at his school put together this fund raiser to help the Cobles purchase a memorial bench at El Toro Memorial Park. He asked me to contribute something. This photo is available as are two others -- cgi.ebay.com/Coble-Family-Fundraiser-Tesoro-Art_W0QQitemZ.... Both of these are framed and matted 8x10" photos in 11x14" frames. You can see the photos better on flickr here and here. All three are printed on Kodak Professional Endura Metallic Paper, and while printed on 8x10", the image area measures slightly smaller than this. They are 3:2 ratio images with the longest side measuring ~9.5".
Thanks,
Jason
P.S. Last week I noticed that the auction had been cancelled. I talked to my brother this weekend, and he told me why. The mother of one of the students who had donated a painting complained to the school's principal. Apparently, the art teacher, who set up the auction, had neglected to get parental consent to auction the students' work. When this particular mother complained about this, the principal caved and called the whole auction off. I hope they are both proud of themselves. I understand that this mother is also complaining about pink and blue ribbons that have been put on trees on campus and around town in remembrance of the Coble children. Maybe she can get these taken down, too ... oh, and by the way, she's a lawyer ...

Oops, that fence won't work in the gully... This change of fencing finally caught my eye even though I have been travelling this road for decades. Maybe I am reaching on this shot but I liked the dichotomy.of the different fencing. Weathering wood always leaves terrific textures even on post modern fencing. I guess it will keep expensive horses inside. I read somewhere that a ranch is a plot of land to poun money into. Some richies bought the land and posted a labor intensive fence that gave way to barbed wire when the terrain got rough.
One fellow stopped and asked if I saw the bobcat that frequented the area. And I was without my change of kevlar jeans. Oh well, I am shooting anyway. The road still provides a pleasant trek from the Foothills Highway to Hygiene and Longmont, Colorado. These are the roads to wander.
Daily lighting seems to have taken on the urgently approaching winter here in the Front Range area of the Rockies. It took a dive on the return to daylight savings. There will once again be a couple of months before the days start to stretch and we have to suffer February. Oh bother! Ah, the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in February will take on new meaning next year because all the bigs have a new toy to fight over. It usually signals a bad stretch of weather. Folks who don't like weather better not come to Colorado and the Rockies.
Finally posting after a long absence from flickr. This photo is from Butterflies Alive at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. Spent a fun morning photographing there with a great group of local photographers.
I will be leaving for a trip Sunday, so will be gone again. Hope to visit as many of you as I can before I go.

Since posting this I have seen many more imaginative interpretations of the theme in the group. I particularly like this one: www.flickr.com/photos/48621173@N05/8351717436/in/pool-191...
It's simple, yet imaginative. It's given me some food for thought in how I would tackle similar topics in future :)

In-camera color work is OK for posting images when I'm on the road, but in-camera B&W jpg generation doesn't yet meet my expectations.
After exploring in-camera jpg processor B&W capabilities, I've decided that for now the best results are had processing RAW files on a Big Computer after I get home from a trip.
Now that I'm home from a trip to Spain, I've gone through some of my work and selected a few for conversion to B&W using a Digital Zone System input correction curve and recipe that I generated for use with RawTherapee.

This is a photograph from the East of Ireland Marathon held at Lusk, Co. Dublin, Ireland on Easter Saturday, 19th April 2014 at 09:00. The race started and finished in the grounds of Lusk United Soccer Club (goo.gl/maps/luVz1). The marathon route followed four loops of a route around the back roads north of Lusk village. The rural roads were perfect for the marathon as there was very little traffic except some movement of agricultural machinery between various farms. This area of Co. Dublin is famous for it's vegetable growing industry. A water and feed station was provided at the end of the loop [here goo.gl/maps/A1JU1]. This was almost the perfect day for marathon running. There was little or no breeze. However temperatures were unseasonably high with temperatures close to 18C (64F) during the race.
The East Of Ireland Marathon Series aims to make marathons affordable and convienient for the runners of Ireland. The serires organisers aim to promote marathon running and to make the process as stress free and enjoyable as possible. All courses are measured to full AAI standards and have a minimum of 10 Entrants. The marathons are self sufficent to a degree although there are limited supplies of water available on the day of the race. There will be no extra frills like chip timing and finish gantrys. However all finishing times are accurately and officially recorded. This is to keep the price down and keep the races as affordable as possible. The East of Ireland Marathon series is all inclusive and welcomes runners who are new to marathon running as well as experienced veterans.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
This is a photograph from the 15th annual Daingean Festival 5KM Road Race and Fun Run held in Daingean, Co. Offaly, on Friday 1st August 2014 at 19:30. The race is held annually on the Friday before the August bank holiday weekend and over the years has built a solid reputation as a challenging but fair 5KM. Several former olympians have set course record times on the course as well as personal bests for many other runners over the years. This is the second year the course changed from it's traditional 4 laps of Daingean village.
The race also benefits from the fantastic support of athletes from the running clubs of Offaly, Laois, Westmeath, and beyond.
All of this year's photographs are available on our Flickr photostream at www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157646095125104/
Congratulations to all of the organising committee, those from Tullamore Harriers and Naomh Mhuire AC who assisted with race organisation, and the local community who come out in strength to offer support and encouragement to the runners. The race marks one of the first events in the annual Daingean Music and Holiday Festival. The Daingean 5KM road race is an example of a small local race which year-in year-out attracts a quality field for all categories whilst also providing a great opportunity for those new to running to sample a race experience. There was a very impressive selection of refreshments provided for participants in the village hall afterwards. There was over 170 participants in the race tonight.

On the steps between Anchor Road and College Green, Bristol.
Apparently this and similar signs have appeared across Bristol as part of a marketing campaign for "Kill Your Darlings", a new biographical film staring Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, an American poet.
Then a sucker like me comes along, takes a photo of it and gives them free advertising :P
