So I picked up another body to go along with my 40d. I purchased a 50d with 300 clicks on it. Not sure if it is a major upgrade, but it definitely has some advantages. Some definitely worth the small upgrade to me..Plus for the price, I couldn't go wrong...

The biggest to me being the LCD screen. Although the same size(3") the resolution is far superior on the 50d. The 40d has a resolution of 230,000dots and the 50d has a resolution of 920,000 dots. It is quite amazing. Especially with the special glare coating put onto the 50d screen. File size is a bit bigger with the 50d being 15.1 megapixels versus 10.1. Another big thing is that the 50d has micro focus adjustment which the 40 does not.

The 40d is an amzing body and many people feel it is better then the 50 and not worth the small upgrades. I will be keeping my 40 for a while till I get some good time in with the 50d. So far I have only taken a handfull of snaps which I have been very impressed with. I will be bringing both bodies with me out to California so I can have one tri-pod mounted for long exposures and the other for handheld sunsets...

America first

German second?

We built a great german wall.

Just built it!

And we made the russians pay for it

So great! I totally love it.

And by the way, when you push the red botton to destroy Germany with nuclear weapons, this is how Germany looks like on map.

I was not expecting to pull a bat out of the water today. This little bat was attacked by seagulls then dropped into the river. While I was looking for something to reach it the bat flipped over and started swimming for the dock. I picked it up, it was pissed, and put in in a bucket until after work. I took it to an abandoned building, in safe spot. It was still pissed when i took it out of the bucket. Seemed to be fine, other than bothered.

Back from a self-imposed Artistic snooze

I decided to have a break for two reasons. One, my trip to Iceland spoilt me with the incredible scenery and the weather was so dramatic and extreme that it left me wanting more, and the Summer weather seemed too flat by comparison. Two, the gap between my processing and what I visioned in my head was getting wider, so I decided to close Photoshop and have a rethink. Not that I could stop shooting :)

Back a great trip to Scotland and Isle of Skye, this is the first from that outing.

Looking forward to the Autumn and some experimentation.

My Facebook

Although marbles may be a little over-used as a subject for Macro Mondays, I thought they would work well for the "Intentional Blur" theme this week. Thanks for taking the time to view my photo - Happy Macro Monday!

After experimentation I used a photo of a very slow colission so you can see the start and rest positions of the orange marble.

Very much on the 'to do' list for the AFRPS is the "Hutnik" - an 0-6-0T constructed by Fabryka Lokomotywim "Feliksa Dzierztnskiego" of Chrzanów, Poland. The appearance is similar to the the USATC S100 'USA' tanks which were built for the war effort, but there are some design differences between the two types.

Alongside is Avonside Works Number: 1919, "Cranford". An 0-6-0ST which would be our locomotive for the afternoon part of the Steelworks visit.

Sandringham House

The private country estate of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Built in 1870 for the then Prince and Princess of Wales, later King Edward VII, and Queen Alexandra,

It has been passed down as a private home through four generations of British monarchs and is now the country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh.

The main ground floor rooms, regularly used by the Royal Family, are open to the public and the decor and contents remain very much as they were in Edwardian times.

The house is set in 60 acres of glorious gardens which are considered by many to be the finest of all the Royal gardens.

Such interesting clouds in the sky over Lake Erie last night. I usually don't go this wide angle when the sun is setting on the Lake Erie horizon, but I wanted to place more of the emphasis on the cloud formations in the sky. Heck, I was even able to get a seagull in the shot too...lol. Photo taken in Lakewood, Ohio.

Male Cuckoo on top of a dead tree on the other side of the river.

They adopt this wing and body positon when calling 'Cuckoo!'.

Did a bit of research - one study found that male cuckoos adopted a certain posture, wing drooping, and tended to keep their tails up more frequently in areas with the highest versus lowest host nest densities. This is consistent with these behaviours acting as potential signals (to females) codifying information on nest abundance in the area.

Another view while still positioned below the Lower Bridge.

The Falls of Bruar are a series of waterfalls on the Bruar Water in Scotland, about 8 miles from Pitlochry in the council area of Perth and Kinross. They have been a tourist attraction since the 18th century and were immortalized in a poem by Robert Burns, The Humble Petition of Bruar Water to the Noble Duke of Atholl, supposedly from the river itself entreating the Duke to plant some trees in the then barren landscape. The falls were probably formed some time in the last 10,000 years, after the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last ice age. The waters slowly cut through the rock which had been pushed up by the geological forces which formed the Scottish Highlands some 500 million years ago. The layering of the rocks means that the water has cut a meandering path through the softer rock and left the harder rock untouched. This has led to the creation of deep pools, outcrops and, in one place, a natural arch. The falls consist of two large falls and a number of smaller drops. The water is often coloured brown from the peat through which it flows. Nowadays, the A9 Perth to Inverness road passes near the foot of the falls in Glen Garry, and there is a shopping centre and car park from where visitors may access the falls. A circular footpath leads up to the Lower Bridge, close to the natural arch, and continues on to the Upper Bridge, about 1/2 mile from the car park, before returning down the opposite bank. The total drop of the falls is about 60 metres. The narrowness of the gorge means that the falls are most impressive after heavy rain, but since the construction of a hydroelectric power scheme in the late 1940s, water is extracted farther up the river and the falls no longer reach the volumes they once did. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falls_of_Bruar

One of my bosses left for a new position, and just about everyone else is out for the Fourth holiday, so I decided it was time to take things into my own hands.

Microsoft no longer offers or supports its Groupshot program. In fact, the program has expired and won't even run now. I had to do this with Photoshop, using a "mask and merge" technique. I did this at lunch, and it really didn't take much time at all.

The versions of me on the right were easy to add. The versions of me on the left were more difficult because of overlapping images.

Funny thing happened, I looked and I had an extra explore shot, my second picture that I posted to Flickr just explored for the first time the other day

Milton Coffee Shop was posted March 22 of this year and has my second most views

www.flickr.com/photos/gruesome/2353360842/

Odd that it should explore for that date at this point

In recovery I can look back and reflect.. I can remember the worst of times & how I felt. And I never ever want to EVER FORGET that feeling! Remembering that feeling.. My position I was in.. etc. is what keeps me grateful, every single day!

For some, it is easy to forget how bad it was.. once you're doing better & sit back and glamourize all of the "good times"... which were NOT good times. But your addict mind will tell you that they were great times. Perhaps because at that moment, that was a good time to you... in a horrible / hellish world that you lived in every day.

I make sure to remind myself (almost) every day.

...What do I remember? - You ask.

I remember the pain.. The wishing it would all just end.. even if that meant dying. I remember crying, and laying there so sick & dirty. I remember sleeping outside in the rain and the snow. (yes outside, under a boardwalk). Snow was fine, until it melted.. I remember that. Rain was the worst.. and even worse under the boardwalk.. because it fell in sheets (not drops).. thru the cracks. I remember getting lucky and finding a tarp with a dead cat in it.. (i'm not even joking). And it smelled so bad. But my ex decided IN NOVEMBER or DECEMBER to go clean it IN THE OCEAN.. Freezing. But he got the dead cat's guts out.. and most of the smell.. that way we had something to put over top of us when it rained.

*I can't believe I just remembered that*.

I remember people talking about, "in 2020" and I'm like, "I'll never make it past 23" "Wow I'm 23, I'll never make it to 25" etc.

Now I'm 34 with over 2 years sober. And so grateful.

I can open up.

I have to be transparent and truthful with everything.. if I ever want to reach out and really touch someone.. and show them it is possible.

People who see me now have said, "Wow, Jess... You're doing amazing, I'm so proud of you. YOU ARE PROOF!! IF YOU CAN GET OUT OF THAT LIFE, ANYONE CAN!!!"

Yes, anyone can get better.

You have to truly want it first.

& Yes, you may say, "yes I want it" but you need the drug more.

... It's not time, for you yet.

And I hope you make it thru to tomorrow.. because maybe tomorrow will be your day.

If you know someone struggling.. Know that you cannot help them. They have to want it. And help themselves.

They have to hit bottom. Or "their bottom". And really make a decision. Like I did, that one day.. when I looked at Juan.. and thought to myself, I'm killing the man that I love.

That was it.

I pray for all of you out there still struggling. I hope you know that you're not alone. And if you ever need to talk, about anything.. I'm here -just message me.

You can be addicted to anything (its a mental thing) the drug is just a symptom of the disease.... I have an addict personality.. So I can get addicted to anything.. and I take it to the extremes with everything I do.. So I have to TRY to set boundaries.. and find HEALTHY addictions.. Like photographs.. and sharing my story.

Just because you're not sitting in an alley with a needle in your arm, doesn't mean you're NOT an addict.

It all starts (for MOST OF THEM) with prescription pills FROM THEIR DOCTOR. (every single addiction you see/hear about) ALL STARTED WITH A DOCTOR VISIT!

Keep that in mind...

Alcohol.. that's a drug.

Food can be a drug.

Sex.

Gambling.

Porn.

Shopping.

Working.

I could go on and on.

So it's good to try to choose healthy addictions if you can. & If you can look at yourself and think, "wow I'm not addicted to drugs, but I'm addicted to porn & shopping".. then be very careful.

VERY CAREFUL.

Because like I said, the drug is just a symptom to the disease.

The disease of addiction.

You may feel like there is NO WAY OUT..

But believe me when I promise you,

There IS a way out. & It's amazing over here! I wake up and go to bed every day GRATEFUL! No every day is perfect, but I get to choose the way I deal with it.. instead of just using. And that's amazing.

Have a beautiful night everyone.

The city of Jacksonville is perfectly positioned along the Atlantic Ocean in northeast Florida. This "River City by the Sea" boasts more than 20 miles of wide and uncrowded beaches, close to 40 miles of the tranquil Intracoastal Waterway canal, and the longest stretch of the beautiful St. Johns River. On land, Jacksonville is home to the largest urban park system in the nation, with 10 state and national parks. Its authentic cuisine, thriving craft-beer scene and fun and cosmopolitan nightlife make Jacksonville a unique destination.

I am sure that means something to someone!?
