The Icelandic horse is small, at times pony-sized. Icelandic horses are long-lived and hardy. The breed has a double coat developed for extra insulation in cold temperatures.

We encountered a great number of these horses along the route, while we were exploring the south (east) of Iceland. At times you feel sorry for these animals, as you feel strong winds and the chilly cold weather of Iceland. Luckily their coat is immensely thick and their manes feel like straw!

Ponytail Falls and Horsetail Creek, Columbia River Gorge, OR February 10, 2019 O6289-99 - Happy Waterfall Wednesdays!

This is such a great hike - it's only about a 5 mile loop with a lot of up and down, but incredible scenery. You start off with a roadside waterfall, Horsetail Falls (gorgeous), climb steeply to Ponytail Falls in about 1/2 mile. You walk under Ponytail and head for a junction. At the junction there is another waterfall, Middle Oneonta Falls. Turn left for 1.2 miles to Triple Falls - wow! I got an early start and had the trail and viewpoint to myself so I lingered for awhile. As I was heading out I ran across the first person I saw on the trail. He said the winter had been horrible and this was the first sunny day they had in ages. Next I passed a group of about 20 hikers headed for Triple Falls. I'm guessing I passed about 40 people on the way back. I'm so glad I got an early start - nice lighting and no people.

The trail ends at Oneonta Gorge - I thought about taking it but there is a lot of wading involved and the water was very cold - maybe this summer.

I took these photos in April 2016.

Hot and sticky

After cool Berkeley on Friday, hot Sacramento on Saturday was a shock. I made the mistake of wearing my hair down.

I seldom change my hairstyle during a photoshoot, but it happened, today. It was just too hot to wear down. After holding it off my neck for a few shots, I gave up and used an elastic to pull it into a ponytail.

Vest, Tinseltown (cut from a consignment jacket). Tank, thrifted. Skirt, Forever 21 (thrifted). Sandals, Seychelles (thrifted). Earrings, Charming Charlie. Bag, Nordstrom Rack. Belt, thrifted.

I got a Scaris Deuce to play with a while ago and recently busted him open! I removed his hair since I wanted it for a different project and decided to see if the CAM Gorgon hair fit him and it did!

The only issue with his is his hair on the sides. It's a bit rough since it's covering the areas where I removed his hair and filled it in with putty.

Here is the vintage swirl ponytail barbie I restored! She had awful green ear which wasn't easy to remove. It's luckily all gone, and she looks fabulous again! I'm so happy because I got her at such a deal! What a diamond in the ruff.

Another great morning in the Columbia River Gorge---had ponytail falls all to ourselves.

My hair in a ponytail after I straightened it.

This morning in the gorge, had a few hours to spend at Ponytail and Horsetail falls. Ran into Jim Hansen and Victor while shooting.

I'd really like to see this weather keep up through the middle of next week when I have a little more time to spend out here

Back then you read ads in doll magazines, sent self-addressed stamped envelopes to "dealers" and waited for the lists to arrive. They made wonderful reading! I still have a stack of them. Anyway, I read a sales item that a guy in Chicago had on his list, saying the doll was a "mint #5 ponytail, just like out of the box". Well, without photos you went on faith alone. In this case I was taken, because clearly she is not mint, and not like she was right out of her box. But I loved her immediately and kept her. It was a lesson to me, though, and I learned to ask questions, and sometimes to ask for photos. I also developed relationships with various dealers and with knowledgeable people in the hobby. So say hello to my not-mint ponytail - she may not be perfect, but she has a personality! She's been wearing Bride's Dream for about 37 years now. I wonder if I should redress her in something honeymoonish. 😊
