Ponytail Falls at Columbia River Gorge, Oregon

At the New Forest livestock market, New Forest, Hampshire, England.

This image of Ponytail Falls, in the Columbia River Gorge, is from my trip to Washington last fall. The trail passes right behind the fall. I was able to catch people on the trail behind the fall which gives a good perspective of the size of Ponytail Falls. I was also fortunate that they stood still gazing at the waterfall which allowed for a long exposure.

Seems this fellow still wanted to rock a ponytail, despite his hair loss. There's some engineering at work to accomplish this....

Candid at Rialto market

Venice attracts some 20,000,000 tourists a year. Add in a local population of 58,000, and you're talking about a big appetite for groceries.

Since the year 1097, Venetians have depended on the Rialto markets for their daily supplies of fish, vegetables, fruit, and other foodstuffs.

The markets are open to the public, and there's no better show in town. Stevedores unload crates of produce from barges; vendors hawk their wares; restaurant chefs examine the daily supply of fish, crustaceans, and bivalves; delivery men push handcarts laden with fruit and vegetables.

Elizabeth David, the cookbook author, portrays the Rialto markets as a visual feast:

"The light of a Venetian dawn is so limpid and so still that it makes every separate vegetable and fish luminous with a life of its own, with unnaturally heightened colours and clear stencilled outlines

"In other markets, on other shores, the unfamiliar fishes may be vivid, mysterious, repellent, fascinating, and bright with splendid colour; only in Venice do they look good enough to eat. In Venice even ordinary sole and ugly great skate are striped with delicate lilac lights, the sardines shine like newly-minted silver coins, pink Venetian scampi are fat and fresh, infinitely enticing in the early dawn."

My Nikkor 16-35 arrived today and I had a chance to get out and finally shoot some wide angle waterfall shots using a polarizer. I tried using various filter contraptions for my 14-24 but they were either too big, or didn't work very well. This new lens is pretty sharp too!

Beaucarnea recurvata is a species of plant in the family Asparagaceae, native to the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz and San Luis Potosí in eastern Mexico. Despite its common name, it is not closely related to the true palms. It has become popular in Europe and worldwide as an ornamental plant. Wikipedia

Nothing spectacular, I just liked the way the little cascade in the foreground mimicked the actual falls in the background....had the little cascade not been there I think should would have been very unbalanced.......

Ponytail Falls, Columbia River Gorge.

Although many waterfall trails are still closed after the Eagle Creek fire in 2017, the trail to Ponytail has re-opened since my trip last year. It's a little ominous as you walk the first part across a large scree slope with charred tree trunks and a sign that says don't dislodge any rocks or you may start a rock slide. The upper part of the short trail is beautiful though, green and vibrant.

This whole challenge has been begging for a beardy hipster.

Much of the Columbia Gorge is closed due to dangers resulting from the Eagle creek fire. This shot is from the furthest point you are permitted to go on this particular trail.

This is shot with a ND .6 grad low and a ND .9 grad upper. It was raining and anything producing a longer exposure was a water droplet challenge. The space behind the falls provided a dry retreat to regroup between shots.

Daredolls and Daredevils -- I made it to the new year hoooooray! And also I caved and got a Catwa head. It is the Jessica head in case you're wondering. Although super cute and sassy - and fact that I've been stuck in the look for some weeks - it won't be the main...as if I had a main look tsk. Nevertheless I thought I'd share with you fabulous peeps. Also, can I get a round of applause for the steezey bad girl look. Vidaloca is pretty bomb for the fly tops. Adore ♥

This is Ponytail falls also known as upper horsetail falls in the Columbia river gorge national scenic area. This super green waterfall paradise is a pleasure to photograph year after year. This is a thee exposure blend for dynamic range and focus. Hope you all enjoy and thanks for taking time to look or leave constructive comments.

Today's prompt asked for "Ponytail". After much discussion with myself, I agreed that the straight forward approach was the best one here, so here is a ponytail.

NOTE: No ponies were injured making this sketch.

I am pretty sure I lost my marbles with attempting buns this year (if I hadn't have lost them already) and I still haven't got the hang of those T - T but Alpaca ponytails are really tricky too. Much trickier than I originally had thought.

Not so much the construction; just getting a real good neat pony haha.

This one was a commission but It might have a sweepy side fringe razored in later. Not sure yet c:

Its a bit too big on my Rin unfortunately but my larger model is out for a face c;

Just past Horsetail Falls is...you got it...Ponytail Falls. (hehe) Lucky us, just as we were arriving it began to rain, and it rained hard for about 5 minutes. The lucky part is we had this little cave behind the falls to wait it out in. What a way to see a storm!

For the last four months I have been living within a 15 mile drive from about 100 different waterfalls in Oregon. This is on the Horsetail-Oneonta Trail of the Historic Columbia River Highway in Oregon. Ponytail Falls is the upper falls for Horsetail Falls and the trail takes you right underneath the falls. The falls are 88 feet (26.82 m) tall.
