Traditionally celebrated at harvest time, Pongal is a celebration of the prosperity associated with the harvest, by thanking the Sun god, rain and the animals that helped with the harvest.
On a more personal note, Pongal's all about family getting together, helping mom draw beautiful kolams all over the house, chewing on juicy sugarcane, looking foward to yummy chakra pongal, the actual ceremony of making the pongal(rice) the traditional way in a claypot, and waiting for the milk to boil over, the blowing of the conch (it takes some practice and the kids always get turns at doing it), the traditional pongal lunch ,a big spread and lots of fun!

தைத் திங்கள் முதல் நாளில் தமிழர்கள் கொண்டாடும் தனிப் பெரும் விழாவான இந்தப் பொங்கல் விழா சமயம் கடந்தது. பிற இந்து சமய விழாக்கள் போல நட்சத்திரத்தின் அடிப்படையிலோ, பஞ்சாங்க அடிப்படையிலோ, இஸ்லாமியப் பண்டிகைகள் போல பிறை பார்த்தோ வருவதல்ல. தை முதல் நாள்தான் பொங்கல். இதன் பின்னனியில் எந்தப் புராணக் கதையும் இல்லை. ஆடி மாதத்தில் தேடி விதைத்த பயிர்களின் விளைச்சலை அறுவடை செய்து பயன் அடையும் பருவமே தை மாதம் ஆகும். அந்த அறுவடையில் கிடைத்த நெல்லின் புத்தரிசியைச் சருக்கரை, பால், நெய் சேர்த்துப் புதுப் பானையிலிட்டுப் புத்தடுப்பில் கொதிக்க வைத்துப் பொங்கல் சோறாக்கிக் கதிரவனுக்கும் மாட்டுக்கும் படைத்து உண்டு மகிழும் விழாவே பொங்கல் விழாவாகும்.

Black pepper - kali mirch - is a traditional ingredient in several Indian dishes. For breakfast today, I had South Indian rice pongal - rice flavoured with cumin and whole black pepper. If ever you go into a South Indian restaurant, ask for pongal. Remember that it's one of the few 'authentic' Indian dishes that you'll find!
This is a cake I did early on for my cousin's birthday. He got a really nice ping pong table for his birthday (which eventually got water damage from being left outside), and so I made this cake in honor of that. the ping pong paddles are made of crisp rice cereal.

The 27 of June 1972, Mr. Nolan K. Bushnell and Mr. Ted Dabney start their own game company, named 'Syzygy' (means 'the sun, moon and earth in total eclipse'). But at this time, 'Syzygy' was already used by a roof-tiling company and finally, the name whas changed to 'Atari' (a word equivalent to the term 'check' used in the Japanese strategy board game 'Go', Bushnell was an avid Go player) and give it the 'FUJI'-symbol (from the Japan's largest mountain 'Fujijama') as its logo.
Pong is the first Atari game. In september 1972, a prototype was tested on top of a barrel as the first commercial coin-operated machine in a tavern in Sunnyvale, CA called "Andy Capp's'. Within two weeks, Mr. Bill Gattis, the tavern manager, called Atari's Mr. Al Alcorn and reported that the machine was in need of repair. When examined, Alcorn discovered that the coin mechanism had been literally stuffed with quarters. Pong became an instant success and it created the arcade video game industry. The video game revolution had begun...
