Lovely wig from Paris Chen at Dream Wigs.
This year the Pongal festival was much better than the former, where the covid and some personal losses had kept away the festival mood or spirit to celebrate. This year the arrival of my nephews - one from the cousin sister and another from sis-in-law - turned the festival much special. I hope those who follow the Pongal or Sankranthi celebrated well.

Pity that we just had our lunch and had to refuse again the invitation to share a Pongal meal in a rural village ... although this kitchen was very inspiring.

This is one of the ritual that is being followed in villages of Tirunelveli on the 2nd day of the pongal ( festival of Harvest ). People cook pongal ( a dish) in mudpots burnt using dried palm leaves. The pongal dish is made infront of god decorated with sugarcane and newly harvested turmeric plant. The cooked pongal is cooled down and a small quantity is offered to the cow Later the decorated cows/calves (painted horns +sugarcane + few money tied around the neck )are untied and are made to jump over the just burnt hay ( this is called Drishti kazhithal ).They run all around the streets.Any person can untie the money that is tied in the bull/cow/calf's neck

Happy ponggal everyone ;)
Ponggal is the indian harvest festival thanking god, the sun for a bountiful harvest - people gather and cook sweet rice on this occasion ;)
Women from nearby villages celebrate the local diety's festival by preparing pongal at night to offer it to the goddess so she stays there forever protecting the people and village.

Thai Pongal is a harvest festival event celebrated by Tamils across the world. Although it started as a farmers festival, today it has become a national festival for all Tamils irrespective of their origins, caste or even religion. Pongal coincides with the festival Makara Sankranthi celebrated in various other parts of India.
Pongal in Tamil means "boiling over or spill over." The act of boiling over of milk in the clay pot is considered to denote future wishes for the family.
Traditionally celebrated at harvest time, it's a celebration of the prosperity associated with the harvest by thanking the sun god, rain and the farm animals that have helped in the harvest.
This festival originated in Tamil Nadu. The saying "Thai Pirandhal Vazhi Pirakkum" (தை பிறந்தால் வழி பிறக்கும்) meaning "the birth of the month of Thai will pave the way for new opportunities" is often quoted regarding the Pongal festival.
The festival is at least 1000 years old although some believe that the festival is more than 2000 years old.

Let me introduce you to the newest addition to my family, and the next drain on my wallet, Lentil. As one doll went to her new home (Shiloh), another came in and I fear I might be slightly obsessed with her already!!!! She's the CUTEST thing i've ever seen!!! I took about 101 photos of her already so it's been hard deciding which ones to put up.
She has a little tooth which is the cutest!!! I am not 100% sure on her wig but that can easily be changed. Ahhhh i'm in love!!!

I'm fascinated by the light which I will call "pong".
a bouncing light that, just like in a ping-pong match, comes back on the side of its source, because it is reflected and produces shadows, geometries, special effects ....
most of the times it is too weak, but sometimes it's really magical!
in this case, it has bounced on a window of the opposite building and magically caressed my kitchen table...

My cats always destroy the blinds in the two kitchen windows and I have to replace them every few months. Here is Pong, my once feral girl, staring me down.

If someone tells you to go fly a kite on January 14, don’t be insulted - it’s Makar Sankranti in India. This is the only traditional Indian festival that falls on the same date every year because it is associated with the solar calendar and not the lunar calendar. The Makar Sankranti festival coincides with the day when the sun begins its northward journey and enters the sign of Makar (the Capricorn) from the Tropic of Cancer. This means the days will be getting longer and warmer. It is celebrated as a festival of life and fertility. Since the holiday falls in mid-winter traditional foods served include many that keep the body warm and give energy.
This Day Indians all over the world, celebrate this as Thanks Giving Day , to The Sun, The Farmers,
The Cattles, The Rivers, and all those who made the Bountiful Harvest Possible.
