These images show a more side-on view of the pot I posted a couple of days ago. This view shows the cup on its side held up with a tripod formed by the two legs and the larger face. The back of the larger face forms a bowl attached to the cup. A smaller face now looks out on the world. I have no idea what this actually is supposed to represent, nor do I know where it actually came from.

Polychrome gets its name from the colorful volcanic rocks making it a breathtaking view as you hike along the pass.

Forty-two groin-vaults are supported on twenty cylindrical columns with simple cushion capitals; the sandstone blocks alternate in colour between yellow and rust, a typical design of the Salian and Staufer era and providing the context of the color scheme of the 19th century façade

(51/365) These images show a more side-on view of the pot I posted a couple of days ago. This view shows the pot or cup upright, with one face looking right and the other lying down on the table. I have no idea what this actually is supposed to represent, nor do I know where it actually came from.
The polychrome wooden pulpit was made in 1733, based on the iconographic program of the Jesuit priest Ignace Saint-Lô, but the sculptor is unknown. The tetramorph, representing the four Evangelists, the human figure (Saint Matthew), the lion (Saint Mark), the bull (Saint Luke), and the eagle (Saint John), are depicted beneath the pulpit—with the names of the Evangelists inscribed on scrolls—and the Church Fathers at its corners (two statuettes were stolen during the Second World War, the third in 1970, while a fourth remains). Allegories of the four continents decorate the sounding board, and a scene depicting Saint Ignatius of Loyola converting Saint Francis Xavier at the Collège Sainte-Barbe in Paris is featured on the door leading to the staircase. Numerous scenes depict the life of Saint Francis Xavier.

Our bus made a stop here on the way to the Eielson Visitor Center. This spot is called the Polychrome Overlook and gets its name from the variety of colors you can see in the volcanic rocks.
I did a fair amount of backpacking back in my younger days, but back then we had to hike both ways uphill in the dark without cellphones or digital cameras. This photo was produced on a type of light recording substance called, "Fuji Velvia." It had punchy, vibrant color, and a strong contrast, and while most landscape photographers either loved it or hated it, neither would use it for portraits of the grandmothers.
Polychrome Basin, by the way, requires a long dayhike in Alaska's Denali National Park. A friend of mine and I got a permit to camp one night here, and late in the evening we hiked to this glacier.

Farmers “paint” their sheep for identification. When pastures are enclosed by stone walls or wire fences and shared by multiple farmers, when it comes time to claim ownership of the animals roaming around a customized painted sheep is easy to identify.

Enough for now with Polychrome, the best suited papers are done.

The deceased, cloaked, crowned, and adorned with jewels, reclines on the lid of the sarcophagus, holding a patera for libations. Near his head lies a folded liber linteus—a book written on linen cloth, possibly a sacred text. A sphinx is also positioned near his head.
The bas-relief carved on the casket surface depicts the funeral procession. The deceased is shown riding a biga (two-horse chariot); in front of the chariot there are his wife, musicians (playing the tibia, lyre, and horn), dancers, a cloaked figure, and a priest holding a lituus—a curved staff resembling a pastoral crook.
The iconography blends the innovation of the funeral procession with themes from archaic tradition: the banquet, music, dance, and the presence of the married couple participating in the ceremony.
The sarcophagus was discovered in Cerveteri, in the Banditaccia Necropolis, inside a painted chamber tomb known as the Tomb of the Sarcophagi.

from a nice bear sighting on Polychrome Pass. The bear was digging roots against the road embankment. But as is common this time of year they rarely look up from their primary job of eating.

A lot of (obviously caustic) chemistry involved here. Some kind of matt "dusty" layer covered the print after first rinse, some of it was possible to wipe away with a cotton swab. So I thought that another rinsing + swabs would take care of that. But no, it still looks very abused with its own character. However, one thing I really like is the green/blue-tinted shadows - just like Retrobrom - with this Fomatone MG/Polychrome combo :-)
