Forward Building Built 1912
The building originally housed the Yiddish language newspaper "Forward" and the social organization "Arbiter Ring" (Workman's Circle) Converted to condominiums in 1999.
This beautiful decorative polychrome terra cotta is on the the third floor above the entrance.
In the coloured development with lith and sienna (glycine), highlights and mid-tones come out reddish yellow and the shadows slightly greenish. If this shade colour is not desired, it can be toned briefly in selenium. Because polychrome prints react to selenium toner with a clear increase in density, the toner should be diluted at least 1+20 and toned for no longer than one minute. With longer toning times the hue shifts towards magenta, but in such cases it is necessary to print considerably lighter, because otherwise the differentiation of the tonal values suffers due to an enormous increase in density.
For me, the real advantage of this development method is not so much the more variable colouring, but the possibility to show the lower mid-tones brighter than usual, in addition to a narrow band of deep shadow densities.
After selenium toning, this effect recedes a little because the colour contrast also contributes to the separation of the tonal values.

Klępsk is a small village in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, known for its historic wooden church, which is a pearl of style and value of the highest class art.
Church of Visitation Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most valuable wooden and half-timbered temples in Europe. From the outside it looks modestly, but the interior delights with the richness of polychrome. It was founded in 14th century, and during the following centuries belonged to both Catholics and Protestants. After the Reformation in 1576, the wooden church was taken over by evangelicals (Lutherans) who carried out renovation works. The result of this reconstruction was the creation of a picturesque, varied external body. At the beginning of the 17th century, the church interior was decorated by biblical paintings of polychrome.

Happy Earth Day & National Park Week
In honor of NPW, I decided to go back into old albums and repost a shot each day that I had never posted publicly. Denali was a perfect choice to celebrate both of the above.

A tour bus sits and waits at an upcoming corner to ensure the road is clear to continue. Only 1 bus at a time can make it around these tight corners, with a steep dropoff on the side.
Had a wonderful day on the tour with Denali tour bus driver and good friend Rebecca Tifft this day. Great beauty and lots of wildlife but no Mt. Denali this day. A common occurrence as the highest peak on the continent creates it's own weather circuit.

The first wooden church was built in 1333, and in 1661 became the property of the Cistercians from Bledzew. The first construction of new church began at the beginning of 18th century, but it was not completed. In 1746, the building was demolished and the build new temple was begun. It was completed in 1762. It is a rectangular, three-nave structure, with the presbytery to the north. The entrance is located between two square towers covered by helmets. In the interior of the vault are decorated with polychrome from 18th century. In the main altar there is a miraculous painting of Our Lady Patiently Listening. It is a picture painted at the beginning of the 16th century with a characteristic open ear, crowned with papal crowns in 1989. Church furnishings (from 2002 the basilica smaller) in the style of Baroque and Rococo.

Pierwszy drewniany kościół powstał w 1333 roku, a w 1661 stał się własnością cystersów z Bledzewa. Pierwszą budowę nowego kościoła rozpoczęto z początkiem XVIII wieku, nie została jednak dokończona. W 1746 budowlę rozebrano i zaczęto wznosić obecną świątynię.

In life, there are many valleys and mountains we must pass through. While we are in the valley, we look up and wonder if we will ever reach the top again. When we rise above, we look over the valley and see the beauty of where we have been. See the beauty of what life offers, even when the storms of life cloud you over in the valley of despair.

I appreciate the possibilities of two-tray development with the Polychrome kit. What I have not tried so far is toning such prints with cobalt/iron toner. What I wanted to achieve here were reddish trunks against bluish snow.

This cathedral is the only one in Europe whose walls and vaults are entirely painted (ca. 18.500 m²).
Most of the paintings (like this one) are from the 15th century and are in their original state, i.e., they have never been restored.

Curiously, the north of Alaska was less glaciated in the Ice Ages than the south. The mountains here retain their conical shape; u-shaped valleys -- the result of glacial erosion -- are largely absent. Yet such glacial meltwaters as there are hit solid permafrost in the valleys and flow over its surface rather than eroding it, much as water might flow over your hard kitchen draining-board. This creates what are called in US English "braided rivers": shallow streams that plait their channels many times. The name Polychrome refers to the bright colours in the exposed rock strata of the mountains. From a slide.

A little over the top for my taste. It should be noted that Polychrome prints appear considerably more colourful after drying than when wet.
These colorful mountains lie within Denali NP in Alaska. Though Denali did not grace us with her presence the day we visited, these lovely views with the storm clouds looming kind of made up for it... Kind of.

Polychrome developed prints (whether yellowish or reddish) react extremely quickly to polysulphide toners and with a completely different colour compared to conventionally developed prints. Therefore, this toner should be diluted much higher than usual. MT4 polysulphide toner 1+500 (!) 40 seconds. Because the toner also works at dilutions above 1+1000, it continues to tone during the final wash. And it is essential to bear in mind that the final colour is only achieved after drying.
