... est surnommée "l'abeille à culottes " Cela est dû aux longs poils dorés que la femelle possède sur ses pattes postérieures
donnant l'impression qu'elle porte un pantalon . L'abdomen de la femelle est sombre avec de fines bandes plus claires, alors que les mâles , légèrement plus fin est de couleur dorées. Cette espèce niche en bourgades dans les zones sablonneuses où elles creusent des galeries dans le sol, sous divisées en chambres dans lesquelles les larves se développent en se nourrissant d'un pain de pollen. L'entrée du nid est facilement repérable car elle es marquée par la présence d'un petit tas de sable semblable à de petits volcans
a Dasypoda à culotte réalise une cellule par jour et si la cellule n'a pas pu être terminée dans la journée elle est abandonnée. Ces abeilles sont très ingénieuses, dans chaque cellules la nourriture des futures abeilles repose sur trois petits pieds ou piliers qui auraient comme fonction d'éviter une moisissure prématurée. Elles récoltent le pollen et nectar exclusivement sur les astéracées et peuvent transporter des quantité de pollen très importantes grâces aux brosses de leurs pattes arrières.

On Sunday, after watching the sun rise, I stopped my car in a trailer park to look at cactus flowers. While sun rose higher, I snapped catching those earlier rays lighting all. It was no stress until a bee or two occasionally decided to land on me.

De wilgenkatjes van de inheemse boswilg (Salix caprea) verschijnen aan de nog kale takken. De zachte katjes zijn zilverwit tot lichtgeel van kleur. De bloei valt als eerste van de wilgen, in het vroege voorjaar. Om die reden is het een populaire struik bij insecten die op de nectar en het stuifmeel afkomen.
De Katjes zijn ook windbestuivers en daarom zijn er kleine aantallen mensen die gevoelig zijn voor het pollen dat in het vroege voorjaar maart-april in de lucht kan komen.

The willow catkins of the native wood willow (Salix caprea) appear on the still bare branches. The soft catkins are silvery white to pale yellow in color. Flowering is the first of the willows, in early spring. For that reason it is a popular shrub with insects that come to the nectar and pollen.
The Catkins are also wind pollinators and therefore there are small numbers of people who are sensitive to the pollen that can become airborne in early spring March-April.
