I use a polarizer filter on many of my lenses, which helps to bring out the blue color in the sky. It also cleans up other haze in the photos, and reduces glare.

I was thinking about getting one of the toy cameras that you can have fun with but just set the camera to Toy setting and then found the Polariser setting and quite liked the outcome.

This is an HDR shot made up of 5 shots taken in autobraking mode (-1.4Ev; -0.7Ev; 0Ev; +0.7Ev; 1.4Ev). A 'Gobe' CPL Polarizer Filter was used. You can read additional technical information in my profile (about section).

Kind of nasty outside today, and I'm feeling a little creative. So I started playing with mirrors and a polarizer

Yeh, I know I know. I am back after a long time. Busy life doesn't make things easier. But this is an image I wanted to make for many years. Somehow never got the right conditions. In fact this time also the condition was not the best. I wanted to have a bit more snow on the mountains. So the hunt probably continues.

With the earth warming up in rapid speed; a perfect shot with more snow will become more and more difficult. Because the snow will not stay on the ground for long. So one need to plan this shot just after a heavy snowfall. But that minimizes the probability of getting a good sky. However it also keeps the challenge and excuse to go back to this beautiful village some more time. :)

I knew about the exact location for many years. But this time when I reached there; to my surprise I saw a temporary safety barrier next to the road. Large enough to cover the view. Surely done for good intention as this road becomes a ski route in winter and this place has an open fall on a turn. And probably it is not that safe in winter to stand there with camera on tripod either. Skiers will not see you next to the turn and can hit you and the camera and in the process all three can get damaged.

But I needed to take the image. So I just went up the hill next to it. Luckily there was no snow at that part as it wouldn't have been possible to go up if there was snow. It was too steep to go up with loose snow. We used the age old Himalayan technique to stand on the base of the grass to get grip on a steep hill. As always I was there 30 minutes in advance. So had plenty of time to set up everything. Was really lucky with a lovely sky.

I still wish I had a bit more snow. But maybe next time. Till them; I will stay happy with this one as a prize for that evening.

A special thanks to my son for accompany me there. We spend the time waiting for the sunset playing chees. So the time passed quickly. He also enjoyed the little adventure and gathered the experience that is so important to have while going off route on the mountain.

If you are interested on the natural beauty of the location, I did make a little video that might interest you here.

The colors are all natural and originate from algae

Here a polarizing filter was used to highlight the different textures in the clouds (see flic.kr/p/2nuDosc for an example using black and white)..

was wearing a new pair of polarized sunglasses and had never really noticed until now the beautiful rainbow colors contained in the clouds and invisible to the naked eye. So I grabbed my old fashioned rangefinder polarizing filter and grabbed a few shots.

A simple view in a forest

Back from a daytrip with camera full a photos. Crazy wide-angle shots, sunsets, reflections, campfires, stars, misty lakes, swamps... But from all of those this simple forest photo feels the best. I guess I'm a forest person then.

My favorite rock. I can't seem to get pass it without taking a picture.

This one is from yesterday after the sunset. A long exposure using ISO100 and a polarizer to make the moss top glow bright.

I visited Joppa Hill Farm today, a community farm owned by the town of Bedford, NH. I love community farms, as they usually let you walk around and meet the animals. It's also nice that they're owned by their community, who are invested in making it a thriving farm, often with an educational purpose.

These goats are among a half dozen or so living there, and they are friendly. They enjoyed some pats and scratchies for Christmas.

Mirasol Beach in the central coast of Chile. Cloudy day, rocks and the sea created the proper conditions for some long exposures using ND grads filters and a circular polarizer. Joint project with Ximena de Toro.

Shot from the hip, I really like the composition in this one. iPhone with Polarize app.

Some rooftops I spotted in Balmain while scouting an old power station for some nightshift photos.

I was home this December for a short vacation, and went out to take photos with my cousin. This is a photo that I took that is polarized on one side, and not on the other. The left side was already darker just because of the clouds above, but then polarizing it made it even more stark! This was a really fun photo to take and I love the rain in the distance with the sun on the right. I wish the piers were a little closer, but there is not much I can really do about that haha.

I hope you all enjoy this photo as much as I do!! :)

Yet another spectacular evening shot from Oman. Just after the sunset the other size of the sky got amazing color. I found this leading line to make composition. I went around this location for some time. However it is very hard to decide compositions up front. On top there is always a risk that you actually destroy your own composition on trying to explore the same. It did happen to me few times. Lucky that even in a desert where the sky is supposed to be very flat, I actually got some cloud to lit up the color.

Not to mention. Oman being not so popular for regular tourists is actually a gem of middle east. I have read about it, but had to go there to really believe how beautiful it really is.

Ok. If you have already reached till here; may be you will be interested to see the sand of Oman in a bit more detail!

This was shot in the gardens behind St Michaels Mount. I’d spotted the crystal clear turquoise sea from the terrace and just had to get down to the waters edge. I knew that the movement in the waves would add some contrast and drama to the backdrop of the dominant castle.

note: i've had some techinical questions about this image that need some clrification.

I used an nd-graduated filter doubled up with a nd 8 and a polarizer to get the colours and to deal with the reflections and to get the movement. Also for double safety I bracketed it and filled in any burned out areas.... I personally feel it needs just a bit more dodge and burn but I didn’t want to over work it. And I need some time to reflect on this.

For Macro Mondays Pins. Pushpins placed in a leftover plastic container, then placed on a polarized filter gel on light box, then a polarizing filter on the lens.

Just testing out my new filter this morning =)
