I use a polarizer filter on many of my lenses, which helps to bring out the blue color in the sky. It also cleans up other haze in the photos, and reduces glare.

Here a polarizing filter was used to highlight the different textures in the clouds (see flic.kr/p/2nuDosc for an example using black and white)..

I was thinking about getting one of the toy cameras that you can have fun with but just set the camera to Toy setting and then found the Polariser setting and quite liked the outcome.

This rose came from a bouquet that I bought. I brought the camera in close for this 100-frame focus stack.

Shot with a polarizing filter to bring out some of the details of the algae forming below the shimmering surface of the water.

Landmannalaugar is a place in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve in the Highlands of Iceland. It is at the edge of Laugahraun lava field, which was formed in an eruption around the year 1477. It is known for its natural geothermal hot springs and surrounding landscape.*

Another beautiful result of airplane photography with a circular polarizer. Every time I look at this it gives me the greatest nostalgia for British Columbia, and reignites my desire for exploration. Hopefully I'll be able to return soon to capture more of this kind of beauty, so abundant in the landscape of the west coast.

Kind of nasty outside today, and I'm feeling a little creative. So I started playing with mirrors and a polarizer

was wearing a new pair of polarized sunglasses and had never really noticed until now the beautiful rainbow colors contained in the clouds and invisible to the naked eye. So I grabbed my old fashioned rangefinder polarizing filter and grabbed a few shots.

I bought some flowers to test out a new sequined backdrop. The blue fabric is reflecting the LED halo light, which has my camera in the middle. This image is a 90-frame focus stack, blended with Helicon Focus.

A simple view in a forest

Back from a daytrip with camera full a photos. Crazy wide-angle shots, sunsets, reflections, campfires, stars, misty lakes, swamps... But from all of those this simple forest photo feels the best. I guess I'm a forest person then.

Sometimes, when you crawl out of a warm bed before sunrise, you really re-consider your priorities. However; if you make it out of bed, get to a great location on time, and are a bit lucky, your priorities become quite clear. This was one of those mornings where it was hard to get out of bed, but boy am I glad I did!

This photo is of the three sisters in Canmore Alberta, just outside of Banff. What a beauty of a morning.

Shot with a Canon 5D iv, 16-35 f/4L, LEE landscape polarizer, and a LEE 2 stop ND grad (hard). Processed in Camera Raw and Photoshop.

My favorite rock. I can't seem to get pass it without taking a picture.

This one is from yesterday after the sunset. A long exposure using ISO100 and a polarizer to make the moss top glow bright.

Both times I headed to the beach side of Point Mugu, I was treated with cloudy skies, varying winds and different sunsets. When I use the 10 stop filter during the day at the ocean, I seem to slightly underexpose the shot, regardless of exposure time. This isn't always intentional but helps me keep details in the sky I might otherwise lose.

I still play around with the 10 stop using both a circular polarizer on the end or without and while it's tougher to color correct when I use both (actually, I have trouble with color correction on a lot of the longer exposure water shots), I think the results are often interesting.

On this trip, the waves were smaller and the tide a bit lower so I shot much closer to the sea than I originally intended. When I returned the second time, this rock was getting battered by waves and I most likely would've been washed off it along with my gear had a lifeguard not told me to stay a bit farther back than I was when she first found me.

There is still one area I haven't climbed down to yet and perhaps next time I'll finally make my way there. The cove that's visible in a few previous posts is the area and as long as the tide level is manageable, I intend to do it.

Forgot I left a Circular Polarizer on my lens. Interesting effect.

Mirasol Beach in the central coast of Chile. Cloudy day, rocks and the sea created the proper conditions for some long exposures using ND grads filters and a circular polarizer. Joint project with Ximena de Toro.

Shot from the hip, I really like the composition in this one. iPhone with Polarize app.

I took some photos of Ivy after a walk, testing out a new polarizing filter. I walk her frequently for a nice family in town. She's very energetic, and is always down for a good time.

For Macro Mondays Pins. Pushpins placed in a leftover plastic container, then placed on a polarized filter gel on light box, then a polarizing filter on the lens.

Hazy sunset at Shah Faisal Masjid. I don't know if it's a lack of rain or the city's rapid growth or some combination of the two but Islamabad is a lot hazier than I remember. Selfishly though, it worked in my favor because it made for interesting sunsets even without cloud cover. This was captured from a vista point at Daman-e-Koh.
