Beaverhead County. The Polaris post office, pictured in 2021. Polaris, located along Grasshopper Creek at the southern end of the Pioneer Mountains, takes its name from the Polaris Mine, a nearby former silver mine. A post office was established at Polaris in 1898 (March 17) with Mary Pierson as postmaster. Since 1985, the post office has operated as a CPO of Dillon. The pictured building has also been the post office location since 1985. The previous post office location was in a building located nearby that served as a store and post office beginning in 1929.
Ringnes Imperial Polaris is a collaboration beer brewed by Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster Garrett Oliver and Ringnes brewmaster Christian Ødegård at the Ringnes Bryggeri brewery at Gjelleråsen outside Oslo, when Oliver visited Norway in April 2012.
The beer was brewed after the Ringnes Julebokk doppelbock recipe but with orange peel, Colombian coffee and a ton of honey added for flavoring. The result is a 45 IBU and 10% abv spicy strong ale, with a name inspired by Fridtjof Nansen's "Fram" expedition to the North Pole in the 1890s (that expedition was sponsored by Ringnes brewery who also sent along strong bock beers with the ship).
This bottle had been in my care for two years and had aged really well. It poured a deep golden reddish brown with a beige head. It smelled of overripe fruits with an oxidized sweetness. It had a smooth, oily mouthfeel. It had an elegant sweetness, with dried fruit notes and mild caramel notes and a mild bitter finish. Long sweetish aftertaste. Very nice.
Lightspeed was my first character to hit level 50, so I decided that my first Kheldian should pay some tribute to that. Here's the backstory I wrote for him:
---
On her way to be honored a hero of the city, Lightspeed was ambushed by a lone Paragon Protector. Beating her attacker to within an inch of his life, she was shocked to discover that he was a clone of Bluestreak, her ersatz brother. He had escaped the Revenant Hero project and followed his fragmented memories to her doorstep, demanding answers.
Bewildered by this turn of events, Lightspeed held the dying man in her arms when suddenly fate intervened in the form of a wounded unbound Kheldian. Before she could react, she watched as the two spirits bound to each other, forming a wholly new individual with strange new powers. Wanting to honor what little past he had, the man took up his host's name of Jeff Northstar and rechristened himself as the hero Polaris Blue.
For her part, Lightspeed has chosen to sponsor Polaris Blue's membership in the Justice Jammers. However, whether it's to help him adjust or simply to keep an eye on him is uncertain, and she is keeping her own counsel on the matter.

The Polaris Slingshot is a three-wheeled motor vehicle. It was introduced in 2014 as a 2015 model.
The Slingshot is manufactured by Polaris Industries, who claim "It's a three-wheeled motorcycle!" It has a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, side-by-side bucket seats, and does not lean. Three-point seat belts are fitted, however it has no airbags or crumple zone, and driver and passenger must wear motorcycle helmets in certain jurisdictions. It has no roof, doors, or side windows. A small windshield is an optional extra on the base model, and fitted as standard on the SL model. Steering wheel, gear stick, and brake, clutch, and throttle pedals have a conventional automobile layout.
Depending on which state the Slingshot is registered in, it will either be registered as a motorcycle, or as an auto-cycle. Hawaii and Maryland are the only states that are still legislating on vehicle classification. Check with your local Department of Motor Vehicles for classification. www.polaris.com/en-us/slingshot/license-requirements
The Slingshot weighs 1,743 pounds (791 kg) and is powered by a 2.4 liter inline four engine derived from the GM Ecotec. This engine was formerly used by GM in the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky sports cars.
