Ibán Ramón's series of portraits are special because they each bring out a different emotion. Several factors come into play in creating a mood. These include the stance or disposition of the subject, the weather and its effect on lighting and the angle at which Ibán Ramón takes his photos. Looking out into the still or choppy water, the subjects are all lost in their own thought. And though we'll never know what they're thinking, we can appreciate the silent moment for what it is, a time to reflect on the pressures of this world.

Regularly working in Malta, I’m now familiar with all of the best vantage points for landscapes and seascapes. On this occasion, I headed for Ghajn Tuffieha on the west coast of the island to capture the scenery just before sundown. Using an ND 0.6 grad filter, the colours and light contrasts came out pretty well so there was minimal post-processing involved. Thanks for viewing.

While at a roadside pullout along Tioga Road with a view looking to the west to ridges and peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains in this part of Inyo National Forest. Given the haze present in the skies above from nearby wildfires, I decided to compose the image by focusing on the meadow to my front as it led up to ridges and more distant mountains. I later used the ClearView Plus tool in DxO PhotoLab 5 to bring out more of the details present, given that haze, and worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and to make some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

Mosteiro de Batalha (Monastery/Abbey of the Battle), Batalha, Portugal. The circular lights of the stained glass windows were beautiful from every direction, but I thought the alignment of the light at this time of day was particularly beautiful. It's amazing how the designers of this monastery used the sunlight so effectively.
