Nelson, NOVA ZELANDA 2023
Christ Church Cathedral in Nelson, New Zealand, is an iconic church located in the heart of the city. Built between 1861 and 1904, it is a notable example of neo-Gothic architecture. The cathedral has a rich history and has witnessed many important events in the local community. Its towering spire is a visible landmark from various points in the city. The interior of the cathedral is known for its beauty, with exquisite stained-glass windows and intricate architectural details. In addition to being a place of worship, the cathedral hosts concerts and community events. The cathedral gardens provide a peaceful space for reflection and rest. It is one of Nelson's main tourist attractions and an important site for local residents. Christ Church Cathedral continues to be a symbol of the city’s faith and culture.
Big Sur, California
A series of three rocky points along the Big Sur coast just after sunset. The one actually called Rocky Point is in the distance. The rocks themselves are granodiorite that was created long ago somewhere far south of here and which has since slid north on the Pacific Plate.
THREE lessons to be learned from a pencil:

Enfant de l'ethnie Surma, Ethiopie
Les enfants commes les femmes et les jeunes filles de l'ethnie Surma attachent une grande importance à leur apparence : ils aiment aussi se parer, non seulement de peintures corporelles et faciales souvent très élaborées et de bouquets de fleurs , mais aussi d'objets divers et souvent inattendus.
Comme les Mursis dont ils sont ethnographiquement très proches, les Surmas sont des habitants du sud de l'Éthiopie vivant dans la vallée de l'Omo et comme eux, ils pratiquent les peintures rituelles, les scarifications et le port de labrets chez les femmes.
Par leur isolement, les Surma sont, de tous les peuples de la vallée de l'Omo, les plus difficiles à approcher et les moins touchés par la civilisation, même si le téléphone portable est de moins en moins rare. Ils s’auto-administrent sans aucune interférence extérieure.et le territoire surma n’a jamais été vraiment conquis bien qu'annexé à l’empire d’Ethiopie en 1897,
Ils ne recherchent pas le contact avec les touristes dont ils disent ne pas avoir besoin pour vivre mais ils ne dédaignent pas se faire rétribuer pour vendre leur image. Ils pratiquent un peu d'agriculture par nécessité (sorgho et maïs essentiellement) mais ce sont avant tout des éleveurs de bovins et toute leur culture est imprégnée par ce mode de subsistance.
Les Surma ont un régime alimentaire adapté aux rudes conditions locales, à base de lait et de sang frais, seules sources de protéines animales. Les bêtes à cornes qui constituent, leur principale richesse, sont trop précieuses pour être mangées, aussi se contentent-ils de leur prélever périodiquement un peu de sang comme je l'ai montré dans une précédente série de photographies.
Cependant,depuis peu, le commerce de l’or, qu’ils trouvent en assez grande quantité dans la région, leur a permis de se procurer des armes à feu et des munitions au Soudan voisin, perpétuellement en guerre civile. Les tensions inter-tribales, récurrentes en particulier avec les Nyangatom voisins, en sont devenues d'autant plus violentes et mortelles.

Photographed at Studley Royal two days ago. I cant help thinking that in this mornings snow these Red Deer would have made for a very different photo.
Low, late near-Spring light bathes the points and frogs at Metra's A2 Tower as distant bilevels at Union Pacific's California Avenue Coach Yard glow.

There's about 30 miles of underground walkways connected under Toronto. Some of the walkways, under the PATH system, are partly above ground and called skywalks. All the paths lead to points of interest in downtown Toronto. This one leads to and from Union Station.
