Not used for more than 60 years, the mainline coal tower on the CN Flint Sub that used to serve GTW mikados, pacifics, mountains, and the 4-8-4 streamlined passenger steamers, still stands tall. While its days are certainly not endangered as the demolition and cleanup would be too much of a hindrance on continuing to run mainline traffic, it is still worth the trip to see traffic, such as CN M371, pass under it just as the old steamers used to.

Just felt like uploading something, because i don't have the time to go out and take pictures today.
If you have to evacuate from a hurricane, fleeing to a place this beautiful and peaceful makes it much better. Pulling up in the driveway and stepping out of the car, this is what you see. Rolling hills and trees and a lot of rich, lush grass with a stream running through the property made for a real feeling of sanctuary for me! I will be forever grateful to the Keiths for opening up their beautiful home and giving me a safe place to wait out the storm.
Two weeks ago, I sat watching the TV as the Weather Channel gave a moment by moment review of what was happening back home in the Daytona area. I called my brother, who still miraculously had cell phone service, and he said it had been howling out, but was quiet at that moment. He stayed in the hall during the worst of it, praying I'm sure. After all was said and done, we had only a little water seepage under the doors, which he was able to clean up quickly.
For me, the worst of the hurricanes are usually the after effects. Normally we are out of power for over a week. It is super hot and humid, and I can't take the heat anymore, so I delayed the return until Wednesday. There was so much traffic that it seemed pointless to try to return sooner, anyway. When I got in, it was like diving into a bowl of pea soup, but the intense heat was only for one night. Florida Power & Light managed to restore service on Thursday, so we had only been without power for 3 1/2 days. That is a record! This time they were prepared, thanks to thousands of first responders who came in from other states to be in position to help even before the storm hit.
It seems like a long time ago, even though it's only been a couple of weeks. So much has happened, and another couple of major hurricanes have skirted the coast and turned away from us in the meantime. For peace and safety, and comfort I would not have had in my own home, I am grateful for this time in Tennessee and to the people who made that possible.

So non of my double exposure are done in photo shop. but looking around on this here flickr site i see that alot of people do these, probably in 45 min. on photo shop, and this depresses me being that i think out my over lapping and spend the time, when others just use photo shop. o photo shop o how i love and then hate you.
also im starting to see it as pointless to post my photos on the internet...
sorry i have been neglecting those in the internet world who i truly enjoy conversing with, i just cant seem to get to a computer often enough. don't hate me. xox

It has been a long time since we had a look at the O'Dea Collection, today we have a very interesting shot of a mail train in Rathduff. I see a flying snail logo and the words snail and mail come to mind. I dont know about you but I would rather receive a nice letter through the post rather than 100 e-mails!

Or in layman's terms what are you looking at!! Revisiting an old friend that I had a number of captures of to fill in the gaps!! This is a young Tri-colored Heron with plumage that is in a bit of a transition!! He's losing the rusty red and white feathers for the slate blue feather of adulthood!! Photo was taken on Armand Bayou!! He was likely wondering just how close I was going to get and whether or not he was going to have to vacate his fishing perch!

With a cloud of dust in its wake, Amtrak train #1 is making every bit of track speed on UP's Houston Subdivision east of the Bayou City.
Just about 4 months later, AMTK 156 would be badly damaged after hitting an 18 wheeler in Lafayette, LA. The locomotive was towed to Amtrak's shops at Beech Grove, IN and has sat there ever since.
