LA CITE MAUDITE
Il était une fois une grande cité que l'on nommait Damvauthier. Les habitants possédaient des champs, des vergers ; ils étaient en abondance de bétails et de gibiers. Ils vivaient dans une oisiveté dorée et passaient leur temps dans les festins et les fêtes. On pouvait remarquer sur la grand-place un vieillard à l'air mystérieux : "Gens de Damvauthier, enfants égarés, changez de vie pendant qu'il en est encore temps. Sinon la colère de Dieu s'abattra sur vous et vous retomberez au néant !" Mais personne ne tenu compte de ses avertissements...
C'était un jour d'hiver froid et triste. Une femme franchissait les portes de la cité. Elle avait l'air d'une pauvresse. Dans ses bras, elle portait un jeune enfant qui grelottait et pleurait. Elle frappait aux portes, sans se lasser, des riches maisons... et reçu de la part des domestiques les mêmes refus sans émotion et l'ordre de passer son chemin.
Soudainement, elle vu venir un vieillard très bon, le moine de Condat, qui les accueillit dans sa petite cabane dans la forêt. Il les fit entrer et alluma un bon feu, qui les réchauffa. Puis il apporta un morceau de pain d'orge et un bol de caillé. L'enfant se mit à sourire et le vieillard le regarda avec attendrissement.
- Vous nous avez sauvés, avoua la femme, comment pourrai-je jamais vous remercier ?
- Ne songez pas à cela, ma sœur, et reposez-vous.
Minuit, Damvauthier veilla. Le repas s’acheva et l'on apporta des boissons fortes. Le fête battait son plein : plaisir, gaieté, insouciance...
Puis, le tonnerre gronda, plus violent qu'aux jours des pires orages. L'eau dans les rues monta et pénétra dans les maisons. Les plus faibles coulèrent tandis que les survivants, établis sur les toits, virent l'eau qui continuait de couler, à un niveau toujours plus haut. Les derniers rescapés disparurent. C'était le grand silence. les clochers émergèrent un moment puis leurs croix. Damvauthier était alors engloutie sous les eaux.
Le lendemain, la femme regarda autour d'elle. Elle sortit de sa cabane et observa la vallée. A la place de Damvauthier, elle vit un grand lac. Elle ne comprit pas.
Le vieillard s'approcha :
- Ma soeur, lui dit-il, les gens de cette ville n'ont pas écouté les avertissements de Dieu et ils ont été punis. Malheur à qui ne porte pas secours à l'indigent ! Malheur à celui qui reste insensible aux larmes d'un enfant !
La femme, dès lors, vécut avec son enfant au bord de ce lac, auquel elle donna le nom de Saint-Point, son protecteur. La cabane devint quelques années plus tard une chapelle. Des pêcheurs ont raconté que leurs filets se sont accrochés aux croix des clochers de la ville engloutie. Et surtout, dans la nuit qui a suivi la Toussaint, on a pu entendre nettement, montant du fond du lac, pour rappeler aux hommes le châtiment du ciel, le glas sonné par les cloches de la cité maudite...

Point Royal, a 1960s Arup Associates designed tower block in Easthampstead, Bracknell. Know locally as the 'Threepenny Bit Flats' (NLA Tower in Croydon, anyone?) - lovely.
Colorado Springs, CO - While waiting on our drinks at Triple S Brewery Allan (an old friend, he's not old I've just known him for a long time) started pointing things out. Come to think of it he does start many conversations with "Have you ever noticed..?" He'll point out the obvious things that none of us noticed because that's how Allan rolls. See? I bet you didn't realize that no matter how you look at this picture he's always point at you.

Kauhola Point Lighthouse in Hawi, a former sugar mill town. As the sugar industry in Hawaii began to collapse in the early 70s, Kohala Sugar Mill announced it was closing it doors, putting about 500 employees out of work. The town survived and today thrives as an art community and tourist trap. Almost all of the remnants of the mill, just west of the lighthouse, are gone.
