Quick weekend trip to San Diego. My wife was invited to attend a stamp class, I hung out with my buddy and his son. We went to Cabrillo National Monument, home of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, the first on the west coast.
This sentinel to San Diego Bay, which stands on a cliff 422 feet above sea level, was completed in November of 1855, and retired in 1891.
In clear weather, it was visible from 25 miles out to sea -- but it was often obscured by fog, which obviously was a big problem for ships trying to enter the harbor.
The new Point Loma Lighthouse was moved to the bottom of the hill where its been shining bright for 117 years.

Stand in the same spot where Captain Benjamin Bonneville and his expedition party overlooked the valley he named Les Bois, site of the city that today bears the same name Boise. The view takes in the entire Treasure Valley. The site is also an access point for the Oregon Trail and a place to hike, picnic, and view wildlife. A mountain bike trail to Lucky Peak Reservoir also runs nearby.
Point Reyes Lighthouse perched above the Pacific Ocean. It's a short half mile hike to the lighthouse overlook from the parking lot and then 300 steps down to the lighthouse. Which means its 300 steps back up!

This weekend it was International Lighthouse and Lightship weekend. This meant that decommissioned lighthouses around the world were fired up once more and the public were invited along to have a look inside. I headed over to the Point Perpendicular lighthouse and enjoyed the bracing 65kmh winds and 7º temps to capture the lighthouse's light. However my favourite shot of the night was this one taken shortly after sunset with Bowen Island and the Booderee National Park in the background on the other side of Jervis Bay. Cheers all :)

A rather common photo of a rather dramatic lighthouse location, on the most Westerly point of Skye...
I saw this wonderful snow sculpture in Hampden's Roosevelt Park the other day. Well done, and what a nice surprise to find on a walk!

Great Central Street (M)
This 453 must have curtailed to Baker Street Station, two stops short of its termination point, then gone straight to its termination point. Point ... less much?
