The intent of this project was to experiment with bales of waste wax-impregnated corrugated clippings in construction applications. Typically thousands of tons of this material are consigned to landfills each week: simply because the wax content prevents recycling. While utilizing the material’s structural capabilities, thermal mass, and insulation values, the students gained hands-on design-build experience. Simultaneously, they were investigating a way to improve the living conditions in rural Hale County, Alabama.
I have a much smaller studio now which makes things a little bit more complicated.
I worked on a self portrait today. Being usually behind the camera, this was a weird experience. I hope that I put my other subjects more at ease than I do myself. Anyway, smiling without looking silly was nothing compared to trying to focus a camera on nothing but thin air. Ultimately, I enlisted the help of a giant, stuffed bear as my stunt double. That worked fine but I think he is negotiating hazard pay now.
Well, this photo will hopeful be useful in my new, upcoming portfolio website. I reserve the right to use the word "upcoming" liberally.
POD 249 - A view into our home furnace. It broke down yesterday. We spent a cold night under double blankets. It was a simple repair, done today. Warmth again.
SOLD I love dried pods. We have some pretty unusual looking ones here in Southern Arizona. I often think ooh I would like to cast that and then I never do :-) Instead I made this little silver pod ring by melting silver and 14k yellow gold together. The whimsical pod shape just happened and I am in love with this little guy. To make the yellow gold stand out more I oxidized the silver to a dark gray.
