Since I was a kid, I have always been captivated by the paper shrouded rockets like "The Point". My biggest nemesis, however, was always the Centuri Vulcan. I built lots of them but never got one to behave or even look very good...until I became a BAR and cloned one. It's not the best flyer in the world but it actually works which is more than I can say about any that I built in the 70s.
Recently, I have been in contact with Blades from TRF about his 24mm upscale and he kindly sent me the PDFs for the shrouds. After some conversation, we mentioned other scales and I mentioned that I used to be an engineer and still had a color plotter that handles media up to 5 feet wide and 300 feet long. This also means no splicing of the shrouds!
I tried to print first on a sheet of posterboard but the plotter did not like that. The media was too thick. I visited the local paper distributor and found 130# cardstock that was less expensive, bigger, thinner and stronger than the posterboard. I ordered some sheets and resolved to give it a try.
It took some trial and error but I found that landscape orientation would actually work.
Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that allows its users to post short messages (aka Tweets) to be displayed on their profile pages. Asocial network is also embedded in Twitter: users can receive messages fromusers they follow. In the Twitter terminology, there are following andfollowers. Given a user A, his followers are the users who receive hismessages, and his followings the users he receives messages from (similar toRSS feeds subscription). Note that the following/followers relation is notsymmetric: if user A decides to follow user B, B does not automaticallyfollow A back.
The data set used to make this plot was collected in June 2009 using ourown Twitter exploration tools as well as the streamingAPI. It contains information about 1 427 116 Twitter accounts. The plotrepresents the correlation between the number of following and the number offollowers. For a given following/follower value, the color describes thenumber of accounts that have this value. For example, we collected informationabout 10 accounts with 10 followings and 10 followers.
An interesting result can be seen for small followings and followersvalues: 67 % of users have followings and followers values strictly below 100.Among these users, we can clearly see the common likelihood to have the samenumber of followings and followers.
Finally, we can clearly identify the well-known following/followersratio that forbids a user to have more than 2000 followings if it has lessthan 2000 followers (that's the horizontal part of the red line). From thispreliminary investigation, it seems that after 2000 followings, thefollowings/followers ratio linearly grows with the number of followings(that's the growing part of the red line); this fact was not known before thestudy, and it is still not advertised by Twitter.

The study of information diffusion among individuals in a social network is a challenging task as there are different possible definitions for a given concept. Consider for example a blogger who publishes a piece of information on his website; there are mainly two ways of quantifying his influence.
First, we call the direct influence of a blogger the number of fellow bloggers who obtained the resource from the original blogger. We define the indirect influence as the number of bloggers who copied the resource from the original blogger, or from bloggers who got their copy from the original blogger, and so on.
If one considers the spreading tree associated with the diffusion process, the direct influence of a node is it degree, and the indirect influence is the size of the subtree rooted on that node.
This plot shows the correlation between direct (x axis) and indirect influence (y axis) of 492 blogs having spread a widget in the context of the Happy Flu experiment. One may imagine some cases in which a blog with a low direct influence would have a high indirect influence by infecting another blog which has a high indirect influence.However, notice how this is not the case here: both quantities are strongly correlated. Moreover, the six blogs with the lowest correlation (i.e. blogs having a high indirect influence but a relatively low direct influence) are the six initial blogs which served as seeds for the experiment and therefore may be considered as a measurement artefact.
Finally, as both quantities are correlated, we may say they both quantify in the same way the influence of a blog.
