A quiet moment before the next rush. I’m always drawn to stations, not for the romance of travel but for the engineering of waiting. Lines, vanishing points, a touch of grime.
Troll A is the world’s biggest natural gas platform, built between 1992 and 1995. From the seabed to the tip of the flare boom it measures 472 meters or 1548 feet. If it stood onshore it would surpass New York’s Empire State Building by almost 30 meters! While it is currently situated 65 kilometers (40 miles) off the coast of Norway, it was constructed in the safety of Vats fjord and then towed to the Troll gas field. It is the tallest and, at 656,000 tons, the heaviest structure ever moved. Since it started operation in 1996, the platform was extended several times to be able to further exploit the draining supplies of natural gas and crude oil under the North Sea, extracting around 100,000 m3 or 3,300,000 ft3 per day, together with Troll B and Troll C.
The model consists of 3,150 pieces, is built in scale 1:650, and features a blue whale for scale.
Northern Class 153 Super Sprinters 153352 and 153380 pass through the remains of Brightside station with the ex 10.35 Doncaster to Sheffield service. Brightside station was opened in November 1838 by the Sheffield and Rotherham Railway which later was absorbed by the Midland Railway. Aswell as the two main running lines through the station, as seen in this shot, goods loops ran behind both platforms. Despite the opening of Meadowhall Interchange, less than 1/2 mile away, in 1990 a limited service remained until final closure came in 1995.

Hadlow Road railway station was a station on the single track Hooton to West Kirby branch of the Birkenhead Railway, on the Wirral Peninsula, Cheshire, England. The station served the village of Willaston.
The Birkenhead Railway, owned jointly by the Great Western Railway (GWR) and London and North Western Railway (LNWR), opened a branch line from Hooton to Parkgate on 1 October 1866, which included a station at Willaston. An extension to West Kirby was completed twenty years later.
The main station building is on the eastbound platform towards Hooton, whereas a smaller waiting shelter stands on the westbound platform towards West Kirby. At the western end of both platforms was a level crossing with rather large gates; this was due to the angle at which the road crossed the railway lines.
Hadlow Road railway station closed to passengers on 17 September 1956. The track continued to be used for freight transportation and driver training for another six years, closing on 7 May 1962. The tracks were lifted two years later.
The route became the Wirral Way footpath and part of Wirral Country Park in 1973, which was the first such designated site in Britain. All of the station (excluding the westbound platform) has been preserved to give an authentic 1950s look and a short section of track has been relaid in front of the eastbound platform. The station is a Grade II listed building and is one of two visitor centres on the Wirral Way, with the other at Thurstaston where the platforms remain in situ, but the station has not been restored.
The opening and closing ceremony of the Youth Olympics Games (YOG) are to held at the floating platform at Marina Bay from 14 - 26 August 2010.

Direct Rail Services livered BR Class 90, 90034 stands at the Country end of London Euston's platform 7 awaiting departure time with Virgin Trains' 1G40 19:03 London Euston to Birmingham New Street service.
Some information about the Class 90:
The British Rail Class 90 electric locomotives were built by BREL at Crewe in 1987-1990, weighing 84.5 tonnes and with a top speed of 110 mph (180 km/h). They operate from 25 kV AC overhead lines and produce 5,000 bhp (3,700 kW). The class is employed on express passenger and heavy freight trains. Their main passenger roles include the Caledonian Sleeper, the ex-Virgin trains Mark 3 set and the Abellio Greater Anglia services from London to Norwich. Freight operations are with DB Schenker and Freightliner on a mixture of roles mainly on the West Coast Main Line and the Great Eastern Main Line.
Fifty Class 90/0 locomotives were built in the late 1980s, numbered 90001-050. They were developed from the Class 87, with many improvements and new features. The Class 90s were primarily built to replace the ageing Classes 81, 82, 83, 84 and 85 dating from the early 1960s, which were prone to fire damage.
The class is fitted with rheostatic brakes in addition to standard Westinghouse air brake equipment. A Time-Division Multiplexer (TDM) is fitted to enable two or more locomotives to work in multiple. It also allows a Class 90 to work a push-pull passenger train with a Driving Van Trailer (DVT), DBSO or Propelling Control Vehicle.
A Class 90 with a rake of eight British Rail Mark 3 coaches and a Driving Van Trailer (DVT) will reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in just over 1 mile (1.6 km), and 100 mph (161 km/h) in another 1 1⁄2 miles (2.4 km).
