Oh yeah, not only did I scratch-build a straw hat, I scratch-built a fully pose-able mounting arm for it.
The pilot's head is pretty much my first attempt at hand-painting a figure. It's not great, but considering I've seen some pilots in "official" builds that look like they're related to the "thin your paints" Space Marine, and most of the time the hat covers everything I can live with it.

It was to show me the difference in rescue hoist equipment in use by the RAN verses the RAAF items we normally used. The other Huey is the one he built to represent our Peace Keeping mission in 1982.
One of the most complex kits I have ever built!

I will have my first commission job to start shortly, a Panzer IV "Wirbelwind".
1963 STUDEBAKER AVANTI
Aurora – 560
1/25 Scale – 1964
Although carrying a 1963 copyright on the box, the Aurora Avanti didn’t appear on retail shelves until October 1964. Even so, that was still about six months before AMT’s version materialized in 1965, thus making Aurora’s effort the first Avanti kit.
