For Macro Mondays.

This week's theme: Plastic

This was kind of difficult for me because I don't like plastic. I feel there is way too much plastic being used for things that could be made from something much more environmentally friendly. But I located a plastic fork in a kitchen drawer and put it into service for a Macro Mondays photo.

Macro Mondays - Plastic

A smart solution to river pollution

In the fall of 2019, the first permanent Bubble Barrier was implemented in the capital of the Netherlands: Amsterdam! The Bubble Barrier was installed at one of the outlets from the canals into the IJ, the barrier will prevent Amsterdam canal plastic from flowing into the North Sea.

A pump on the bottom of the waterway creates a bubble screen by pumping air through a tube with holes in it. The Bubble Barrier creates an upwards thrust, which brings waste to the surface of the water. By placing it diagonally in the waterway, the Bubble Barrier uses the natural current to guide the plastic to the catchment system at the riverside. Both ships as fish can pass the Bubble Barrier, but plastic will be stopped.

Plastik von Vivi Linnemann

Der Reiz dieser Plastiken besteht darin, dass man in ihnen je nach Standort alle möglichen Gegenstände, Tiere, Gestalten sehen kann. Ist das hier nicht ein Nilpferd? ;-)

The charm of these sculptures is that you can see all of possible objects, animals, figures, depending on the point of view. Isn't this a hippo? At least almost? ;-)

By the way: the sculpture is almost levitating, but only almost ;-)

The theme for this CrAzY Tuesday (3-May-2022) is 'Made of Plastic'.

Doing this was fun. And, yip, I've got way too much stuff.

May all your Tuesdays be CrAzY! 😀

The theme for the week is plastic. Finding a subject was the easist part but I really couldn't figure out how to best to shoot it. I listened to an interesting Podcast over the weekend regarding plastic. It was Science vs. The title is "Is There Really A Plastic Spoon In Our Brains?" With all of the recent hype/panic about plastic inside our body it was a good listen. How are you trying to avoid plastics in your life?

HMM! This macro shot looks abstract but is actually the teeth of 4 clear plastic knives clamped together. The black lines and contrasty knife teeth are a neat effect produced by backlighting the knives with a softbox at low power but leaving one of the black edges of the softbox just out of the camera view. Shooting macro also answered the question of why plastic knives can never cut anything - the teeth are basically little round knobs. Not very sharp!

Macro Mondays - 4/6/20 - "Plastic"

Plastic Hairbrush Bristles- hope everyone is keeping safe :)

Throughout 2018 I have been busy working on a new photographic project in Scotland using my miniature figurines (the 'Little People').

My main hope is that this new series of photographs will help highlight the plastic / litter epidemic our country (and planet) is suffering from. Littering in general has always sickened me, and the 'Blue Planet II effect' really made me feel like I too could help highlight the issue using my own unique approach.

Earlier this year, I spent several days collecting bags full of plastic and rubbish that had been discarded (or washed up) next to beaches and lochs on the west coast of Scotland, mostly 'beauty' spots. I kept some of this plastic to make my work (recycling the rest) and returned to the banks of Loch Lomond a couple of months ago to photograph my latest series - LIFE IN PLASTIC.

Thanks for looking.

So for this weeks theme "Made of Plastic" I did take some images of the current UK banknotes that are now plastic. However I was not able to process them in Photoshop as they were recognised as currency and did not allow any manipulation of the image.

So my fall back is this box.

It is now an important part of my life as its where I store my newly prescribed hearing aids at night.

I love Laura's designs so much, and have accumulated a fair few of her dresses over time. I had this photo idea in mind for a little while. I wish I had enough of these dolly racks for all my dolly clothes!
