I had a guy from one of the gas companies round today to change the meter on the front of the house as they said it was too old and needed upgrading (it probably wasn't giving them a high enough reading!) So I stayed in all morning until he arrived. He was a nice enough chap and set to work while I watched telly inside. After half an hour he came in to re-set the gas appliances and re-light the boiler. He told me he'd managed to cut himself and asked for a plaster. He'd nicked the top of his knuckle while trying to undo a stubborn screw and there was a tiny bit of blood but he wanted a plaster to stop it going everywhere. As I found him one he said he had told his boss about his little cut while phoning him about another matter and that there might be another guy coming round to see him about it soon.

Sure enough a quarter of an hour later another van pulls up and out jump two more men from the same gas company who announce themselves as the "Accident Investigation Team". They're all there in my front garden for another 30 minutes taking photographs of the offending screw that had given him this tiny cut and filling out loads of paperwork. The guy in charge (with a clipboard no less) was almost constantly on the phone to his office and the way he was talking you'd think he'd been rushed out to a life and death incident. Madness!

I'm all for health and safety, in moderation, it's saved me on a number of occasions and I even teach qualifications in workplace health and safety, but this was a farce. The poor guy who'd gotten the cut looked so embarrassed. It was all I could do to stand at my front door and smirk at it all. No wonder fuel bills are so high when we're paying for all this extra red tape and bureaucracy.

Scratched my leg on the rabbit run like a total wolly. Ouch.

The nose hole will have to be plugged with clay before plaster is poured -- after it is removed from the model, of course.

I was in two minds as to whether or no I should do a project like this and this image pretty much sums up why.

Two toddlers STILL in blasted nappies, a full-time job, husband who works away a lot and the new photography business.

This isn't a violin moment but rather a reflection on where I am at the mo.

Can I find the find sandpaper to finish the plaster?

I can not.

Scab and Plaster by Marina and The Diamonds. This is dedicated to my best friend David :)

venetian plaster with pearl wax finish , moulding painted in faux marble.

Plaster models don't mind boob shots. :) Don't know how the original model felt, though, waiting in front of the sculptor with a baby on the nipple for 48 hours...

Apparently it used to be normal for museums to send people out to make plaster casts of famous things, so they could "exhibit" those great masterpieces in almost exact replica. The Carnegie Museum has a giant room FILLED with this stuff. It's amazing to walk through.

After 6 weeks with a plaster my skin begin to fall like snake, after a shower it was normal. The reason is here (it can shock) www.flickr.com/photos/k_lu/148648707/

Sculpture made in 1999(?) while at New College. The assignment was to make a mold, but I wasn't happy with the limitations of regular molds, so I heat-shrunk a heavy trash bag around a piggybank. This is the only surviving of three; the others had fruits in them, which rotted and evolved over time, but also attracted gnats.
