trying out an interior for the death star.

Hier in Nuth rijden nog de Sprinterdienst tussen Sittard en Heerlen met Plan V.

As usual, I tried a few different subjects for the Macro Mondays group theme, Anachronism, and this was my Plan B. It's a brass box for holding shirt studs, which I don't think many people use these days, and dates from around the 1920s. I found this one at the Lewes Antiques Flea Market recently.

Sunday I had hoped to spend a leisurely day chasing Pan Am Railways' water train. My plan fell apart by late morning when I heard them getting ready to tie the train down east of Rigby. I was heading for home when I heard DJPO (Danville Junction to Portland) call a stop signal at Royal Junction in Yarmouth. As a part of ongoing infrastructure improvements associated with the Amtrak Downeaster service contractors are in the process of grading roughly 4 miles of second track to be reinstalled from Royal west into Falmouth. The construction has helped open up some shots that haven't been possible for many years. With a pair of buffer cars and a load of anhydrous ammonia from the Saint Lawrence & Atlantic interchange the local is approaching Cumberland Center. Many years ago this location was known as Cumberland Junction, the original junction of the Maine Central Railroad "Back Road" and the "Lower Road". A 6 mile plus realignment of the Back Road resulted in Royal Junction, where the lines currently connect. This was one of a couple realignments in the immediate area, the other one being in New Gloucester.

I bought a porcelain figurine on eBay from France. To my pleasant surprise, the parcel arrived quite quickly and very well-packed. The figurine survived the trans-Atlantic journey all intact.

It's not the first time that I've received a parcel from France or Italy fully covered in stamps. I think I'd keep the box just for the stamps. Too bad that someone decided to cancel the stamps with a marker instead of proper postal cancellations.

Couldn't resist taking one more pic. The sky looked beeeautiful <3

It can be challenging to get a good photo in the forest without fog or mist. You always need to be extra creative in pursuit of something decent. I love shooting this scene. I do it in all seasons.

I was deliberately planning to shoot in this forest for this shot. The fresh lush forest is just too attractive to me. Hope one day to manage to photograph it in foggy conditions, as I never did. Although I found this forest as a local one, it still needs some sort of vehicle to get there and I have other places where I go when fog is outside.

I wanted to include a trail as a contrast to the greens around. It was a cloudy and overcast day. Perfect for forest shots. I have a position that is a bit above the trail. From there I choose the most optimal perspective for me to take a shot. This scene I found a few years ago which is strange given the fact I go to this forest much longer. It looks magical in autumn. Can’t wait for yellows and oranges to come to this place to photograph it.

Anyway, I took a bunch of photos that day from this place, came home, transferred them and then totally forgot about even going for a shot, as that was the second time in a short period I went there. Just last week I suddenly recalled that I may have an ‘’extra’’ album with photos… And here it is. In the edit, I did some dodging and burning to make the light stand out a bit. Different shades of greens are such a spring thing. Hope you like the photo. I’m highly open to any feedback you have.

This Boeing 747-475 was delivered to Canadian Airlines on February 15, 1991 (first flight: January 30, 1991, c/n 24895/ 837). After the takeover of Candian the Jumbo flew two years for Air Canada, until May 2003. Between September 2004 and January 2012 the 747 flew for Aerolineas Argentinas as LV-AXF when the four-holer was stored at Mojave...

Happy 5th of July!

I wasted over two hours yesterday on the internet, trying to figure out where to go to shoot the fireworks. Went round and round in circles figuring out where to go in an area that I don't know at all. What I really wanted was fireworks in front of the Tampa skyline with water in the foreground. Figured out where the fireworks would be (they never REALLY tell you where the fireworks are actually LAUNCHED from, just where to go to see them, so it's always a crap shoot) They were east of the the city, so not really any water there for a nice foreground. Went to Google Earth and scrolled around couldn't find any possible vantage point, so gave up on Tampa.

Plan B. I thought maybe Clearwater. Unfortunately, their fireworks were on the bayside, not out over the ocean as I had hoped. I did find a condo that jutted out where I could have water and a bridge in the foreground, but didn't think it looked that good, so I kept looking.

Plan C. St Petersburg. Too iffy. Too far. Tarpon Springs? Palm Harbor? After getting up to around plan E, I said "Screw it!" and went to Clearwater.

Damn! I'm glad I did. The bridge made an awesome foreground, and it was so still there was a perfect mirror reflection of the fireworks in the water.

Hope everybody had a great Independence Day!

Starting off as what was a simple train depot in the 1920s, the town of Kelso boomed briefly to as many as 2000 residents in the 1940s, when borax and iron mines opened nearby. Gold and silver were also discovered in the nearby hills of what became known as the Kelso district. The town shrank again when the mines closed after about a decade.

The Plans & Diagrams series was started in March 2006. The ideas and images continue to toy with me; I expect the series will grow. Images are of insects, machines, plans, diagrams, graphs, mathematical notations, and buttons.

Each of my series has its own set of rules. Some of my rules for the Plans & Diagrams series: use a photo of a linen bed sheet as the foundation of the image, restrict the color scheme to beiges, yellows, grays, & blacks, include an insect, include buttons or other circular objects. I don’t always adhere to every rule in every image in the series, but I find the restrictions help me explore the imagery.
