These Fairies/Pixies are from a postcard I had from when I was super young, I found it in an old book I bought (well I was 9 yrs, my mom bought it then, LOL) and I recently found it and couldn't wait to scan and share!
Wouldn't they make great jar fairies, or dolls in a theatre?

Itching to use my new camera I'll probably OD on Moss and Lichens before the first wildflower blooms.
. From many stories it can be presumed that pixies are good, that one should want them to visit (as long as the house is clean). The picture, however, isn't quite so clear as sometimes pixies bring ill luck and cause nothing but trouble.
Visited my pixie-cups in the Albany Pine Bush ... the 'cups' are only a few millimeters wide. This image made using photo-stacking for extended depth of field. I believe this a Cladonia spp.

As Arthur C Clarke noted, any sufficiently advanced technology is is indistinguishable from magic. In the case of Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanners, the boundaries between technology and magic are blurred. Although we radiologists are taught in-depth MRI physics, the adage is that 'If you think you understand MRI physics, you don't'.
Hence many radiologist suspect that these machines have their internal workings controlled by pixies. This suspicion has now been affirmed - I captured one of these elusive pixies on camera just this morning.
This Siemens Aera is a state-of-the-art scanner at the Spire Hospital in Bristol where I do some 'humanitarian' work [ahem].
It is a hugely impressive machine; 4.8 tonnes in weight with a niobium-titanium superconducting magnet bathed in liquid helium (-269ºC), which itself is insulated by liquid nitrogen (-196ºC). This said, scanning is remarkable safe. So long as you aren't sporting ferromagnetic foreign bodies within you.
Interestingly MRI was largely invented by Sir Peter Mansfield who shared the Nobel prize in 2003. Sir Peter should not be confused with his namesake Flickrite, the all-round good egg Zenas M.

Thank you very much andreea for the amazing work you did with Pixie, I can't stop looking at her, she is just PERFECT! :)
This is Pixie - six months ago nervous, suspicious, dull, brown and balding, and more recently having transformed into a confident, relaxed gleaming black beauty.
Yesterday she won her first prize - 5th Best 6 months - 2 Year Old Greyhound Bitch at the Great Greyhound Gathering.
I'm very proud, that was a terrific achievement for her.
