Banzai Pipeline in Oahu, Hawaii.
Surfer unknown.
In Oahu this week and drove up to the north shore of the island, in search of the kamikaze surfers. This was my third stop and I hit the jackpot. Great surf, and I was able to get into knee deep water to shoot the surfers up close.

The Alaska Pipeline currently delivers 720,000 barrels per day of crude oil from Prudhoe Bay in the north to Valdez, 1300km (800mi) in the south. This part of the pipeline was seen along the Richardson Highway at one of the many crossing points.
"Another innovation associated with the pipline is the zig-zag configuration aboveground. Since pipe shifts around far more easily aboveground than when buried, the zig-zag path of the pipeline allows the pipe to move from side to side and lengthwise. This movement may be caused by earthquakes or by temperature-related expansion and contraction. The vertical supports also include "shoes" to allow for horizontal or lateral movement, and crushable blocks to absorb shocks from earthquakes, avalanches, or vehicles." - wikipedia

092013: Nogales, AZ - This Inukton Pipeline Robot is used to travel down pipes and tunnels that may be too small for a person to crawl through. The Inukton has a camera mounted to the front of it and the Border Patrol Agents can control the robot and view what its seeing from a control box. The Inukton Pipeline Robot was purchased Asset Forfeiture Funds, so it did not cost the taxpayers any money.
