Male Bearded Tit / Reedling mid call. The 'Ping' call is very disticntive and used by the family flock to keep tabs on each other whilst foraging through the reedbed.
I have noticed before that the 'moustache' is in 2 main parts - with a break at the bottom of the top beak.
I have included a link to an earlier shot below where this was a bit clearer (and closer). Both shots however were taken in almost exactly the same spot, but a year apart.

píng ān. Safe and sound, well without mishap, quiet and safe at peace.
Male Bearded Tit / Reedling - mid 'Ping' call.
Didn't realise I had managed to catch him doing this - but really pleased as it is a bit different.
Have not noticed before (as I haven't got a 'Ping' shot this close before) but the moustache seems to be in 2 sections 'hinged' where the 2 parts of the bill meet.
They normally use this call to keep the flock together, especially when foraging amongst the reed stems in low light.
The small flock flew into the tall reeds and I could hear them but not really get a view until this chap appeared and stayed for a few seconds in a gap between the stems.
There was light cloud cover this morning which gives a nice light for photographing these stunning birds, it is so easy to blow out the highlights on their throat it direct sun.
Nothing else sounds like a flock of Bearded Tits 'pinging' away to each other in the depth of the reed bed. These contact calls help them stay together when out of sight foraging amongst the reed stems.

Part of our tour to China some years back. Some of the unspoiled scenery we were privileged to witness. Hills sculpted into rice terraces that change colour every season, green in summer, yellow in autumn, white in winter. Our visit was in May before all that but still beautiful. Panorama stitched together in Photoshop from two pictures. It was not my intention to take a pano at the time, I am amazed that it worked! I only wanted to get more of the beautiful scenery and interesting village. It is not great quality photography, but I think it is got a good 'moment'.
I'm interested in everything about people. Not just, 'what do you do for a living?' but I want to know about their fears and sadnesses and listen to their regrets, both sides of it, the happy and the sad.

We were over at my sister's house tonight having a little ping pong action. I couldn't resist the lure of taking some pictures and toying with some fun lighting.
Lighting info: sb-600 (bare) high camera-left @ 1/4 and sb-800 (also bare) directly behind Rachel @ 1/8 and tilted up at about 45 degrees or so.
Saturday Morning At Riceland. November2025. Tighter shot, different film, camera, lens and development than this one shot on a Nikon/Voightlander combo: www.flickr.com/photos/200106881@N04/55004326154/in/photos... This place is almost silent, except for the sound of some machine still going. A hiss and a ping about every 10 seconds. It’s kind of eerie sounding. Stuttgart, Arkansas USA. IlfordFP4pushed200. This is Mr Ping. He was my trishaw driver when I was in Penang. He is a very chilled out type of character and it was really interesting talking to him. He works for a tour company there that arrange day excursions and trips in and around Malaysia. He spoke about his time in Penang and his driving days as he peddaled me around Georgetown and Little India.
These little three wheeler rishaw type buggies are well cool, very comfy....as long as you don't go over any potholes...and also watch out for the traffic. As we approached Little China, a few cars really got too close for comfort and we had a narrow escape with a lorry when going round one particular bend.
Full faith in Mr Ping though..he is one helluva trishaw driver. Thank you for the enjoyable journey! :)
Or table tennis, whichever you prefer. My 7th build for the ABS Builder Challenge Season 1 Finale.
Surprisingly, what you see is more than 50 studs long - I used up almost all of my dark green bricks, and I only was able to build the part of the table that would be viewable for the shot.
The curved dark red seed part was used 6 times.
