This is a 20-shot focus stacked image, after three or four false starts. Finally, I got an image I was satisfied with. But it is still not perfect by any means!

I think I picked a tough subject – it is very hard to see the details of the pineapple, even in live view!

I learned the hard way that focus-stacking close ups is a lot more difficult than focus-stacking landscapes, which can be managed pretty easily with 3-4 shots, at most.

Hope to take more close ups...

the pineapple is a big deal here in Va, and you can't go many places w/o seeing one!

This is about 9x11'', wip, machine and hand sewn, beaded and quilted..

It was built in 1761 by the Earl of Dunmore as a summerhouse where he could appreciate the views from his estate. At this time, pineapples were among Scotland’s most exotic foods.

Saw this setup some time ago, in a piece of art ; here I tried to recreate something similar through photography, only my pineapples are not very even.

Scavenger Challenge - September 2017 Assignment - Vegetables and Fruits

In September, we're going to explore vegetables and fruits! This will also give you some practice in the creation of classic still life images, so please devote some of your efforts to making pleasing arrangements of them while incorporating objects such as vases, books, candlesticks and the like into your images. Bear in mind that this is not mandatory.

Days of Shooting – Week 12 (w/b 24th September) One Word: Yes, just one word will make your photo for each day of this week …. whatever that one word is then please ensure that it is the focal point of the image. The “one word” should be the title of your photograph and where possible each day of the week should be of a different “one word” subject.

PINEAPPLE & THE MATHEMATICAL FIBONACCI NUMBERS

Pineapple scales or fruitlets or eyes are patterned into spirals.

Since these scales/fruitlets/eyes are approximately hexagonal in shape, three (3) distinct sets of spirals can be seen on the surface of a mature Pineapple.

One set of 5 parallel spirals ascends at a shallow angle to the right,

A second set of 8 parallel spirals ascends more steeply to the left,

and

A third set of 13 parallel spirals ascends very steeply to the right.

The numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 etc. are called Fibonacci Numbers where a Fibonacci number is the sum total of the previous 2 Fibonacci Numbers.

Product Look-Up (PLU) codes, printed on a little sticker on the fruit, for Pineapples are:

5743 = Half

5155 = Small

4029 = Medium

4430 = Large

This Pineapple was grown from the top of a ripe Pineapple sold in stores, as a part of an experiment.

This was not fed any fertilizer throughout its lifecycle and hence it was sweet and juicy but smaller than its parents.

The Dunmore Pineapple is a folly in Dunmore Park, near Airth in Stirlingshire, Scotland. It was ranked "as the most bizarre building in Scotland".

The intricately carved stone pineapple, which is situated between the two bothies, forms an elaborate cupola atop an octagonal pavilion, with sash windows topped with Gothic ogee arches on seven sides and a door, topped with an ogee transom, on the eighth.

The pineapple is around 14 metres (46 ft) high and constitutes a stunning example of the stonemason's craft, being a remarkably accurate depiction of a pineapple. Each of the curving stone leaves is separately drained to prevent frost damage, and the "stiff serrated edges of the lowest and topmost leaves and the plum berry-like fruits are all cunningly graded so that water cannot accumulate anywhere, ensuring that frozen trapped water cannot damage the delicate stonework."

Visited a pineapple plantation in the Azores today.They grow them under glass here.On holidays so fewer comments than usual..HWW.

The pineapple in the walled garden at National Trust, Berrington Hall. I have no idea why it is pink! However, there is a wonderful play of light which is quite magical.

A spectacular plant, with spikes of purple-edged, pale green star-shaped flowers on purple-spotted stems in July and August, topped with a pineapple-like tuft above a rosette of wide, fleshy leaves.

This distinctive, summer-flowering bulb looks stunning planted in clumps in a large, well-drained container or in a sunny, exotic-style garden.

Since it's not fully hardy in frost-prone areas, it's best over-wintered indoors in a cool greenhouse; however. it seems perfectly happy planted out in my garden, with protection from the north and east!

The low wall behind these plants makes a raised bed for my collection of tree peonies, while the tub on the right contains a selection of Cyclamen, which flower at different times of the year, so it's always a point of interest!

A friendly face.

SSC - Two

Almost as soon as I saw this weeks Challenge I decided to use some of the Eucomis that I have in the garden, the question then was which variety to use.I have two varieties and the second one I will post in the first comment box.

Eucomis (Pineapple Lily) are not hardy so they are overwintered in the greenhouse and brought outside for their summer holiday! For something that looks so exotic they are remarkably easy to look after
