Yet another offspring of the lone pine. This specimen is at Wesley College Glen Waverley.

I know this is the third variation of this tree top, but I love this one here. I took so many of this one tree that each photo gets a different treatment!

Male flower of this pine tree. I don't know exactly which kind of pine, though.

My friend JohnRyan precariously sits atop the crest of Pine Mountain located in southeastern Kentucky. A several hundred foot drop awaits him on the other side. One thing is for sure...you won't catch me doing this!

This was taken last year when we ventured down to the real mountains of Kentucky to do some hiking, camping, birding, and botanizing. Bad Branch State Nature Preserve in Letcher County is home to the deepest gorge on Pine Mountain, and harbors many rare species that are typically found at more northern latitudes. This is one of Kentucky's most remote and truly wild areas. A daunting several mile hike up the mountain is completely worth it when you finally reach the mountain's crest at an elevation of 2,900 ft. The summit provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape and nearby Black Mountain to the south.

The end of the growing season, and the garden is looking spent, but still there are little elements of color or interest,… at least for the gardener.

Even at the end of the season, I find something appealing in these plants and flowers.
