brand new pine cones are forming in May. I was surprised they were so purple when i first saw them. An unexpected bonus for someone who likes purple, i just thought i was getting evergreen when i planted it. these cones are less than a centimeter, 1/4 inch tall.
After yesterday, sunny & shirtsleeves, today we have about an 1 1/2" of snow! April 2nd! ^%$%^&%(&^ The feeder has been busy, besides this flock of rather gregarious Pine Siskins I have seen, House Finches, Junco's, Bushtits, House Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Yellow-crowned Sparrows, Song Sparrows, Chickadees, Starlings...quite a menagerie, all in one day! These Siskins however just dominated in numbers.. they were numerous, brash, rude, argumentative and just plain showed no respect to the other hungry birds...
