Picture of Ponderosa Pines with Ponderosa Pine branches as the frame. In the Sierra Nevada foothills. (Despite the title, and while these pine trees are in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, they are not "Foothill Pines." "Foothill Pines" are better known as "Digger Pines," which our area of the county is infested.)

Ten days ago, I got some redpolls at this feeder. Today I got a nice picture of a Pine Siskin.
I like this feeder. Thanks, Jeff for putting this baby up!

In anticipation of going up to Paul and Sarah's for game night, I made pine nut tassies! Yum! They were even easy to make than I remembered!
Falling in love with what Christmas brings, including pinecones all throughout my yard on various trees. In my opinion, they add so much character to Pine trees, especially this one.
There were plenty of Scots Pine along this stretch of coast. The foliage of this one was low enough that I could get a close up picture of its flower. Never seen one this close up before
An old Longleaf Pine, Pinus palustris, that was "boxed" (tapped for turpentine) decades ago at Weymouth Woods. The tree is not that big around, but it must be quite old, as turpentine harvesting ended long ago. The preserve dates from 1963, but I believe harvesting was ended much earlier. I did not notice this when I took the photo, but it looks like there is still a piece of metal stuck into the trunk--perhaps a remnant of the box? I'll have to ask the ranger.

Leftover pine that was recycled from a box spring. I wanted to try making boxes into different shapes and designs. Not quite finished with this, because it needs a hinge, or slip fit lid. We'll see.
Люблю сосны за их яркие стволы, сочную зелень хвои и за то, что сосновый лес - особенный, прозрачный, светлый...
The pine tree plantation near the Swift River outflow is one of my favorite spots. The uniformity (all the trees were planted at the same time I believe) stands in such contrast to the forest. This is just north of Rt. 9.
