Its been crazy dry here in the Colorado Front Range areas. It hasn't snowed or rained in weeks and the trees still need water to survive the winter. So yesterday I spent a lot of time soaking the ground around all my trees. The pine trees got a lovely spray of water and these droplets formed on a lot of the needles of the tree like a bunch of tiny ornaments.
Shot using a Canon FD 24mm f2.8 SSC lens with a 5mm extension tube to get a closer look.
A few members of the large flock of pine siskins that recently discovered my seed feeders. I've been very busy keeping the feeders well stocked; it seems that as soon as I fill them they are again empty. Definitely an irruption underway, and it is a treat to have so many of these birds enjoying my backyard. Backyard birds.
6 September 1962, 75023 is the pilot engine, 92245 the train engine, on the Pines Express as it leaves Bath Green Park, passing the locomotive depot.
Despite the camera shake this has always been one of my favourite photos. I was twelve when I took it on an old box camera. And it is my first railway photo.
This was the last week of the through trains from the North running over the S & D.
The yard foreman used to send us away sometimes, but we always came back!
A re-edit of a previous post
These two photos were taken at the same place, a little less than an hour apart. For the second photo, the sun had come out and you can see the pine needles.

I haven't seen a Pine Siskin (Spinus pinus) for some time. There was a virus that was decimating the local population as I understand it. We usually have them with us for Winter, but this year, not a one. The Goldfinches arrived enmass the other day, and brought some Siskins with them. I'm happy to see them!
I was surprised how long the snow stuck around in the lower reaches of Zion NP after Christmas. I took this shot 5 days after it first fell along Pine Creek with a view of the Sentinal. We were on our way to the backcountry office to get permits go down Pine Creek Canyon later that day. As you can see by the creek, it was flowing pretty good. Indeed, we were swimming right from the beginning of the canyon. Winter descents down slot canyons are always more challenging. Sometimes the snow/ice made it difficult or impossible to find the anchors and we'd have to improvise our own. But it sure was beautiful up there.

this tree is the centerpiece of our pond... my husband brought home a little sprout from a job in Manhattan in 1990..... it's been moved many times before it settled over the pond...
I will say, not the best choice of spots, especially when the needles fall and I'm forever scooping them from the filter...
