I received a Disney Movie Club mailer in mail and it contained a glossy postcard sized image from The Incredibles 2. I decided it should be a billboard picture frame thing.

To be honest, i just look this picture cos i wanted to show of my kitten hehe

I dismantled a picture frame and found paper packing leading to an obituary from 1917. Sobering Sunday.

I had to choose just 3 of my 4,000+ photographs for a frame I received as a present - I went for the angry deer, the bumblebee and the crow.

Its my father's birthday and a tribute for him.......thanks for everything pap. Wishing a couple of beers with you..

- An old laptop, which doesn't have enough memory in it to run today's software

- A picture frame from Ikea

- Flickr

The plan is to have this picture frame showing all photographs with a certain tag: and for it to rotate through them every five minutes or so.

So far, I've stripped down the laptop, mostly to turn the screen around, to make it as flat as possible, and to strip as much prettiness from the casing to ensure the thing runs nice and cool. The frame's planned to be open at the back, so that it doesn't get too hot.

Things still to do:

1. Find some software (or bake my own) which will do a good job as a screen saver type thing under Windows 2000. After checking, none really exist: most insist on Windows XP (which this laptop doesn't have). I suspect the solution is probably a simple Flash application, but I need to work out how to get the photos from Flickr - I'd like to do it automatically, rather than manually. I suspect that I'll share a folder on this laptop, and tell it to frequently check how many files there are inside it.

2. Work out some way of keeping the laptop affixed inside. The good news is that this frame is quite nice and thick, and made of wood. Stubby screws will probably do the job.

3. Get some frame mounting card properly cut, rather than the amateur job here. And find a nice photograph to put in the other frame.

4. Put VNC Server onto the laptop, so I don't need to use the keyboard

5. For the best effect, work out how to hide the mains lead that goes into it. A cheat would be to put this on a window ledge or shelf.

I feel sure someone's already done this, so any comments would be welcome.

I've started covering picture frames with newspapers. Anybody have a paper from some far off city? Please send it to me!

This is a mitre chops used to trim mitres in the manner of 18th and 19th century cabinet makers and picture frames who did not have such things are mitre trimmers or sanding disks. It is made from mahogany. I tried to make this as accurately as I could. I used a surface plate a lot, in fact, when I had finished planing the triangular pieces you could feel them sticking to the surface plate due to sticktion. The screw box and tap that I had was a bit too small though but given that they are hard to come by I went ahead with what I had. The resulting screw thread is a bit too thin to tighten as much as I would like. If I ever come across a bigger screw box I might get round to making a thicker screw thread. In terms of how you use this you simply clamp the moulding so it sticks out of the jaws a tiny bit (having already cut it to a mitre with a fine saw). You then use a very fine mitre plane or finely tuned block plane with an adjustable mouth and you plane the end grain of the moulding. You don't damage the jaws of the clamp because you can feel when to stop planing because you no longer feel the blade of the plane engage on the moulding when it is flush with the face of the clamp. Some sources suggest they had a sheet of paper glued to them so you would know when to stop planing but I have never seen this on antique ones I have seen and I think this would make a mess of the accurately crafted face.
