Dark red 4WD pickup with camper.

Ok, why is this white pickup special? It uses the new Lego one piece car base (See last picture). It comes with the LEGO Set Juniors 10735 (Box shown below). Mudguards and axles are combined in one piece. Lego did this with a 4 wide base a year or so, this is a 6 wide base. Also in this set is the pre-printed, not sticker, grill on a 2x4 tile. The 1948-1953 Chevrolet Series 3100 half-ton pickups benefited from a redesign that took Chevy trucks into a new era of comfort, convenience, and style.

Chevy's restyled "Advance-Design" trucks were introduced in 1947, well ahead of its first new postwar cars, and little changed in appearance through 1953. The basic intent was to provide more room and comfort for occupants.

All Advance-Design pickups had a new bench seat accommodating three persons, instead of the old separate seats -- and for the first time the seat was adjustable for leg reach.

The cab, described as "Unisteel Battleship" construction, was larger in every direction. New extra-wide doors swung open on concealed hinges and extended down to cover the sills. Glass area grew considerably via a wider windshield, side windows, and backlight -- Chevy called the result "Observation Car Vision."

Interiors were more colorful than ever before on a commercial Chevrolet, and the dashboard was functional and more glittery.

Mechanical conveniences included interior door locks, a large steering wheel, new steering geometry for less effort, more conveniently positioned foot pedals, an accessory radio, roomy glovebox, and full needle instrumentation.

The 1948-1953 Chevrolet Series 3100 half-ton pickups also featured "four-fold ventilation" through the easy-crank-down side windows, cowl-top ventilator, foot-operated floor vent, and a fresh-air inlet on the curb side of the cowl.

Light-duty trucks in 1947-1949 came only with a 216.5-cid six; later ones may be 235.5-cid, formerly used in heavier trucks. For 1950, the 235.5-cid engine got a redesigned cylinder head, to become the "105 Hi-Torque" six.

Changes through the period included gray (instead of body-color) inner grille bars for 1949; vent wings, a lower rear-view mirror, and elimination of left-hand cowl vents for 1951; pushbutton (instead of rotating) door handles for 1952; and a slimmer hood nameplate for 1953.

Collectible Pluses of the 1948-1953 Chevrolet Series 3100 Half-Ton Pickups

* Sleek styling

* Plenty of examples to choose from

* Strong collector support

* Pickups lead all other body styles in value

Collectible Minuses of the 1948-1953 Chevrolet Series 3100 Half-Ton Pickups

* Not strong as an investment

* Some body trim parts are very scarce

My favourite vehicle in the show, this Ital pickup must be a real rarity. It was apparently rescued from a scrapyard in an engineless state and is undergoing a rolling restoration, and appears to have been mildly modified with lowered suspension and wide wheels from a TR6.

Nice little street rod, a shorty pickup. I like the thirties Ford headlights. They add a nice style to the front.

The original design for these used the same fenders front and rear. These don't quite look like the same, perhaps reshaped. At first I thought the rear ones were swapped but I've changed my mind on that. I'm also imagining that there is a much newer chassis under it, maybe an S-10 Blazer.

I spent several hours in Plymouth, Michigan on the afternoon of April 29 while my cousin purchased a used car there. This stylish Ford pickup was parked at an auto detailing shop across the street from Tyme Auto Sales, where my couisn purchased a 2002 Saturn SL2.

By request I have scanned the remaining pages of a sales brochure that I posted some time ago, for the owner of one of these rare Jeeps. I have never seen one. This brochure was used for J10s assembled in Australia.

I hope the rest of you find it interesting. Some were used by American military and some were used at airports. In Australia they were heavy duty pickups for farmers.

The farm where my dad worked in the '70s had one of these until 1975/76, when they replaced it with a Datsun 1500 then a Subaru.

Looks like it has been sitting for 20 years! At least 12 years because I saw it there all through my highschool years. Seen in the same yard as the Chevrolet pickup sans bed.
