yellow flower on cup cake

[May '22 Note: This is only the second time I've ever been featured in Explore, so that's very exciting. Thank you for the looks, likes, and comments!]

I started with metallic rock, as there's a ton of iridescent shale in my yard, which is partially dug up at the moment. But it was looking less shiny and more plain rock-like in the shots, so then I started paying attention to the almost-too-small-to-see red dots racing over the surface of the wall on which I was setting up the rock shots. This is far and away the closest I've ever seen one of these nearly microscopic invaders. I looked them up, and they're called clover mites.

Shot with an 18-55mm kit lens on Nikon D300s. To achieve the magnification seen here for this tiny subject (Twizzler made to hold an overhand knot), 20mm extension tube was attached between the lens and the camera. A red tee-shirt hung couple feet behind the subject provided the background. The colors/tones enhanced in Lightroom, then cropped and saved as JPG file in Photoshop.

An off-camera flash was used to light this subject. The flash was triggered by on-camera flash in commander mode.

Unfortunately, the timestamp on my old camera wasn’t checked (and set properly) before shooting this image around 1 pm PST on Jan 21, 2019. My apologies.

This is the first shot I've posted on flickr for which I used my new toys - a macro bellows and a ring flash mounted on the front of the lens. It's going to take more practice. And I'll have to get out my heavier tripod.

The #MacroMondays #PickTwo theme - Blue flower

A focus stacked photo taken using a 12mm extension tube, window lit using a white background with ambient light shone onto the flower using a mirror. The usual Photoshop tweaks to colour channels, texture, added haze and a vignette complete the image.

HMM folks.

The curve on the brim of a hat held by a Lladro figure. And I guess you could add delicate pottery flowers. But my Pick Two is Pottery and Curve. HMM

Macro Monday theme : Pick Two,

I might have taken an easy way out chosen twisted candy, but twisted candies in Swedish colors are a pretty good motive :)

It fell victim to one of my pet's, that it also lost a toe and has a scratch on the tail, I noticed only in this picture.

Damaged candy

I didn't think I'd have an entry today but as I prepared a package to send to my granddaughter I dropped and stepped on a little candy cane. It was meant to be...

Macro Monday theme: Pick two

Middle of a rose blossom from my wife's garden.

I was given this Dinky wheelbarrow in around 1950 but it was not long before I had dropped it and bent one of the handles. I then discovered that die cast models are quite brittle as my attempt to straighten it only made matters worse. I ended up with a one-handled wheelbarrow which I still own to this day. Over the years it has also suffered from a bit of paint loss (known as playworn in the trade) but at last it will have its day in the limelight as a Damaged Toy in Macro Mondays!

In front of our house is this huge tree which I started calling the bee-tree, since it is buzzing with insects - mostly bees and bumble bees, flies, butterflies and everything else loving its nectar from the thousands of blossoms. Since my Mum passed 10 days ago it is kind of a new habit to sit on the bench that I installed for her last summer on the porch out front (she was housebound for the last 3 years), have my second morning tea and enjoying the shadow and smell of this tree, its smells and the sound of all them insects. And today I recognised a much bigger striped insect - and realised it was a hornet! Not especially a big fan but am glad they seem to be back. So my input for MM is striped insect.

Love the reflection of the sky on its back.

I took this time extreme approach and made this one as totally abstract bokeh picture. Picture is from sequins of the stuffed toy. Although picture is from toy the word pair that I used is Iridescent-Abstract.

Macro Monday's and the theme of "Pick Two".

Okay I was a bit late this week but didn't want to miss out on the fun. After thinking about what we had around the house I chose my wife's Wicker Basket that she keeps her hair stuff in as there are lots of curves in the handle.

A few seconds of thinking about the background and I decided to place a greenish bag and a pinkish tin so that the handle appears to separate the two colours.

Ambient light was starting to fade by the time I got around to shooting the image but It was at least soft.
