SLP Lab is building a Lander Simulator inspired by the old Lunar Lander video games, and specially by the Edu-Ware's interactive simulation Rendezvous: A Space Shuttle Simulation, developed by NASA scientist Wesley Huntress.

 

More than just having fun playing with it, the pilot has to master the Newtonian concepts of force, acceleration and velocity and their relationships - in short, Newton's 3rd law - to be able to land it safely.

 

You can play with it in Second Life Physics Lab.

Day 060. Busy day! Went to work then last lecture in physics! I'm impressed I am finishing so strong! After that went swimming. Did 100 warm up 100 kickboard 100 peanut 5-50 sprints 100 kick 100 nut then a 500. Exhausted! Went to violin lesson. Came home and ate really fast. Went to starbucks for coffee and then played racquetball. I'm going to be so sore and tired tomorrow it will be ridiculous. Plus I have a busy day ahead of me! Logged onto eevec and realize all that reading will be null this summer since there's things I have to know before the start of the course! So much for that idea. Looks like it will be a kind of crazy summer. We will see what tomorrow brings. Oh yeah and I won both the cutthroat and 1v1 games!!

"Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls"

 

This picture depicts the flow of water in a waterfall. A waterfall illustrates the concept of energy, in particular, the conservation of energy. Gravitational potential energy (GPE) is energy that is stored in a system due to its position in the gravitational field. The equation for gravitational potential energy is GPE= mgh. Thus, at the top of the waterfall where the height is greatest, the water has a maximum amount of gravitational potential energy. As the water travels down the waterfall, the potential energy is transferred into kinetic energy (KE), or energy of motion. When the water reaches the bottom of the waterfall, it reaches its maximum kinetic energy and the gravitational potential energy is equal to zero.
