Phillips Brooks was rector of Trinity Church in Boston. This statue is outside the church of whose design and construction he was a principal force. While the statue commemorates his distinguished career as a clergyman, local wags wonder if perhaps it shows he was really transmitting the inspiration a #Jedi master.

Very seldom am I thankful for red lights, but this is one time where it paid off for me. I haven't seen too awful many of these ex-Phillips stations hanging around in my travels.

I went to visit Dick Phillips a few years back when i was planning a mountain bike trip through the Southern Fjallabak, Iceland.
He listened, looked at me over the top of his glasses and said "do you know how to cross a river boy ?"

He looks around thirty? So this, if the biographical note is correct, would be 1880s - late for a daguerreotype?
