Kim and I spend a wonderful morning appreciating the outstanding modern art collection. It is not large but it is very comprehensive including work from most of the influential and important artists of the movement.
Kim, an artist who is so knowledgeable in the subject, was a bonus to a Cristy who knew only about the most famous artists. She was the perfect guide!

I met the very dapper Phillip enjoying a quiet lunch time pint on my walk yesterday. He was a little surprised that I wanted to take his picture but was happy to comply when I explained I was learning how to use this film (and camera). So glad I didn't allow my usual nerves at approaching strangers to get the better of me.
Phillip K Dog's one of the happiest beings I know - just about always wearing the silly grin you see here
Solano County is home to Phillip Glashoff, a wonderful artist who creates delightful metal sculptures from found objects. Shortly after moving to this area I drove past the Glashoff Ranch on Rockville Road and was astonished to see a cow pasture full of sculpture. I nearly ran off the road. Since then I have noticed his charming work enlivening many public and private spaces around the county. I believe I would recognize a Glashoff even if I unexpectedly saw one outside of California. There is a nice outdoor display of work for sale in downtown Suisun City. This is one of the cow pasture pieces.
Sydney is the state capital of New South Wales and the most populous city in Australia and Oceania. Indigenous Australians have inhabited the Sydney area for at least 30,000 years, and thousands of engravings remain throughout the region, making it one of the richest in Australia in terms of Aboriginal archaeological sites. During his first Pacific voyage in 1770, Lieutenant James Cook and his crew became the first Europeans to chart the eastern coast of Australia, making landfall at Botany Bay and inspiring British interest in the area. In 1788, the First Fleet of convicts, led by Arthur Phillip, founded Sydney as a British penal colony, the first European settlement in Australia. Phillip named the city Sydney in recognition of Thomas Townshend, 1st Viscount Sydney.

[Don't be fooled by the name on the shirt; Don was Phillip's father -- at least that's what he told me.]

Built in 1909 by Joseph A. Britton, the Phillips Covered Bridge is a short 60 feet in length as it spans Big Pond Creek southeast of Montezuma, Parke County, Indiana. This multiple kingpost through truss bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This was bridge no. 17 on Day 2 of my covered bridge trip.

Phillip was standing with his friend Willie (who I met last year) on the southwest corner of Wacker Place and Wabash. He's been homeless for about two years, due to a divorce, alcoholism, and loss of a job. He works with a temp agency a few days a week, which helps him out. He was a very likable, positive person. I gave him a coat and he gave me his back, saying "I'll return the blessing, because someone else could use it." Just by the way he spoke and acted you could tell he had a good heart.
Phillip's Superette is on Business 74 on the east side of Laurinburg, North Carolina in Scotland County.
Been too busy lately, just like everyone else I suppose, decided to finish work early and took the girls for a drive down to Phillip Island to see the Penguins. It was a nice afternoon with the sun blazing, was just beautiful.
Unfortunately no pictures of Penguins - No cameras allowed :(
Just photos of sunset...
Phillip Island is famous for several things: (1) a popular holiday spot for Melbournians since the 19th century, (2) seals, penguins and koalas, and (3) The Phillip Island Moto Grand Prix.
In 1971 a new bridge was built to link the island with the mainland at the fishing village of San Remo.
This old video footage shows the bridge under construction:

Phillip was reading the Sunday paper when I found him. He had a shopping cart close by with all of his basic needs. He told me a story of how he was hit by a car while he was crossing the street (in the crosswalk) and he's waiting for his settlement money to come. There was even a police officer that witnessed the scene. I commented on how amazing his steel blue eyes looked and he said with a toothless smile, "people always say that."
