Junior Mints were introduced in 1949 by the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based James O. Welch Company, manufacturers of candies and candy bars such as Sugar Babies, Welch's Fudge and Pom Poms. Born in Hertford, North Carolina, Welch attended the University of North Carolina and then founded his Cambridge candy company in 1927. His partner in the company was his brother, Robert W. Welch Jr., who retired from the confectionery business in 1956 and two years later founded the John Birch Society.

In 1963, the brand was acquired by Nabisco, who sold the brand to Warner-Lambert Company (now part of Pfizer) in 1988, who in turn sold the brand to Tootsie Roll Industries in 1993.

Not every helicopter flying over the East River in New York City that summer day several years ago was flying tourists. This is - now, was - the corporate aerial limousine for Pfizer. The first doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD), with distribution being conducted in phases, Dec. 14. NMCSD and Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton (NHCP) were selected by the DOD's COVID Task Force based on recommendations from the military services and U.S. Coast Guard, to best support several criteria to include anticipated supply chain requirements, such as cold and bulk storage facilities; local population of at least 1,000 priority personnel across the military services; and sufficient medical personnel to administer vaccines and actively monitor vaccine recipients. NMCSD’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
