Texas A&M University (A&M or TAMU) is a coeducational public research university located in College Station, Texas in Brazos County. It is the flagship institution of the Texas A&M University System, the fourth-largest university in the United States and the largest university in Texas. Texas A&M's designation as a land, sea, and space grant institution reflects a range of research with ongoing projects funded by agencies such as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of Naval Research. The school ranks in the top 20 American research institutes in terms of funding and has made contributions to such fields as animal cloning and petroleum engineering.
The first public institution of higher education in Texas, though not the first general university in the state, the school opened on October 4, 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas under the provisions of the Morrill Land-Grant Acts. Originally, the college taught no classes in agriculture, instead concentrating on classical studies, languages, literature, and applied mathematics. After four years, students could attain degrees in scientific agriculture, civil and mining engineering, and language and literature. Under the leadership of President James Earl Rudder, in the 1960s A&M desegregated, became coeducational, and dropped the requirement for participation in the Corps of Cadets. To reflect the institution's expanded roles and academic offerings, the Texas Legislature renamed the school to Texas A&M University in 1963. The letters "A&M", originally short for "Agricultural and Mechanical", are retained only as a link to the university's past. The school's students, alumni, and sports teams are known as "Aggies."
Historic Cushing Memorial Library on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The Neoclassical style building was constructed in 1930 and was the first freestanding library on campus. The library was named after Col. Edward Benjamin Cushing, an 1880 graduate and Chairman of the Board of Regents for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M in 1963). Edward Cushing was responsible for preserving the debt-ridden school during his 1912-1914 tenure on the Board. He used his own funds to obtain credit to help keep the school in operation and led a campaign to keep state lawmakers from consolidating it with the University of Texas.
Today the building is known as the Cushing Memorial Library and Archives.
The Cushing Memorial Library was one of ten buildings constructed during a five-year period from 1928 to 1933 for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M in 1963). The others included the 1929 Chemistry Building, 1932 Administration Building (now Jack K. Williams Administration Building), 1932 Agricultural Engineering Building (now Scoates Hall), 1932 Animal Industries Building, 1932 Veterinary Hospital Building (now Haynes Engineering Building), 1932 Petroleum Engineering & Geology Building (now the Michel T. Halbouty Geosciences Building), and the now demolished 1933 Horse Barn (also known as the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station Annex Building).

The Beaux Arts style building was constructed in 1932 as the Petroleum Engineering, Geology, and Engineering Experiment Station Building. The eclectic building also has some Art Deco elements. It originally had a large stone tower above the main entrance to cover a water tower. The tower was removed in the 1970s.
The building was named the Michael T. Halbouty Geosciences Building in 1977 and it now houses the Department of Geology and Geophysics.

Historic Scoates Hall on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The Classical Revival style building was constructed in 1932 as the Agricultural Engineering Building. The building has a two-stored entryway with elaborate cast iron and stone ornamentation. Animal motifs around the building include goat heads and owls.
In 1945, the Texas A&M University Board of Directors named the building in honor of Daniels Scoates, professor and head of the Department of Agricultural Engineering from 1919 to 1939. The building was designated as a Historic Landmark of Agricultural Engineering in 1978 by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.

BBC Radio hail him as “…A HUGELY TALENTED ARTISTE FULL OF POTENTIAL” Bennie King, real name Ike Opene is a London based Hip Hop/Dance artist with an international appeal. His music has club and dance influences with a very melodic and sometimes rapid fire rap delivery. King’s lyrics are very poetic, often romantic with sharp production and beats to keep party-goers everywhere happy. Combined with his boyish good looks, talent and charm, KING is officially the new Crown Prince of the present Hip-hop generation.
His first EP titled CLUB was released in January 2010 and received significant mention in the media. KING has since followed his debut with the release of a new free mix tape called SYCHRNICITY on the popular DatPiff.com platform in promotion of his hotly anticipated sophomore album.
Former model and university trained engineer BENNIE KING, born Ike Opene is poised to take the new generation of Hip Hoppers and the urban music scene in general by storm. Full of poetry, lyrical aesthetics and top-notch production with a sprinkling of urban credibility, King admitted on a live radio interview with BBC s’ Paul Moss that his music though often romantic can be quite political in its content.
Ike left the shores of Nigeria with a degree in petroleum engineering and went ahead to study music technology and audio engineering in world-famous IMW, London, there he further honed his production palette, acoustic repertoire and lyrical appetite.
“I call my music Truth music because it is Hip Hop according to Bennie King. I grew up in Lagos, Nigeria and acquired a certain type of cultural software from that environment, living in Europe and subsequently traveling round the world has helped my music find a universal voice, so you will find a lot of influences in my music from retro 90s Hip-hop and R and B to uber modern dance, pop, soul, jazz, afro beat and classical music.
I think music is the most sacred thing there is and this is what separates us from the beasts of the field. I am definitely political and I would like to think spiritual, and this reflects in the music “.
Bennie King’s lead singles include H.I.T.M.A.N and LOW and are available now on iTunes and Amazon. bit.ly/10NNRLa

Historic Haynes Engineering Building on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The Classical Revival style building was constructed in 1932 as the Veterinary Hospital Building. Atop the main entrance is a shield with a veterinary symbol topped by animal heads and a star. Above the entrance doors is an elaborate cast stone saddle and animal heads.
This building was later known as the Civil Engineering Building. Today it is now officially named the H.J. (Bill) and Reta Haynes Engineering Building and houses the Department of Ocean Engineering.
This old Veterinary Hospital Building is the only remaining of the six buildings that made up the original School of Veterinary Medicine. It was one of ten buildings constructed during a five-year period from 1928 to 1933 for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas (renamed Texas A&M in 1963). The others included the 1929 Chemistry Building, 1930 Cushing Memorial Library, 1930 Hart Hall, 1931 Alton Hall, 1932 Administration Building (now Jack K. Williams Administration Building), 1932 Agricultural Engineering Building (now Scoates Hall), 1932 Animal Industries Building, 1932 Petroleum Engineering & Geology Building (now the Michel T. Halbouty Geosciences Building), and the now demolished 1933 Horse Barn (also known as the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station Annex Building).
