Unprecedented exercise craze hit Toronto, despite the moronic mantra from various governments. From the usual walking, jogging, biking to yoga, taekwondo, tai-chi, boxing. Swimming is only curtailed by lake temperature and amount of smelly green algae. Personal trainers took their business outside too.

I had the pleasure of shooting Personal Trainer and WBFF Body Builder, Aimee Buchler recently. She was a natural in front of the camera and pulled of some awesome moves. I taught her everything she knows, Not!!!

Located in Niceville, FL--just across the bridge from Destin and a short drive from Eglin Air Force Base, CrossFit Emerald Coast is not your ordinary gym. We don't have acres of shiny isolation exercise equipment, thousands of dollars worth of treadmills and elliptical machines (complete with their LCD screens or magazine racks), wall to wall mirrors, or a smoothie bar.

  

What we do offer is the most effective workout program possible! We are serious about real fitness. Our equipment is simple, extremely functional, and has application to daily life regardless of your occupation. Furthermore, our workouts typically last less than 25 minutes and are exceedingly more effective than spending hours doing isolation movements or trudging away on a treadmill. In fact, you will typically warm up, workout, cool down, and be on your way in less than 60 minutes! In as few as 2 sessions per week, you will quickly observe significant and quantifiable results in your fitness levels--even if you thought you were in 'good shape' when you started!

  

At CrossFit Emerald Coast, you will be trained by a certified personal trainer in either private sessions or in a small group during our regularly scheduled classes. No longer do you need to worry about planning your workout--we assign the WOD (Workout of the Day) to you when you arrive and help you perform it safely and effectively.

  

We understand you may feel intimidated about training with us--don't worry! Even though the WOD may look difficult or nearly impossible to the mere mortal, every workout is scalable to your abilities. We all have a starting place. In fact, it is not uncommon to have a 16 year old football player, a 26 year old service member, a 36 year old accountant, and a 67 year-old retiree in a class doing the exact same workout together! If you have any questions or concerns, our trainers are very experience in helping you properly and safely scale your workout. We promise those of you saying, "I could never do that!" will soon be saying, "I can't believe I just did that!" We see it all the time!

  

CrossFit training is hard--we won't water it down. You will be physically and mentally challenged each and every time you step through the door. Day 177

 

Again, here's Evonne Personal Training,Monetique - I just *had* to share this photo and how we ended up with this shot. I *wish* I had though about grabbing my little flip video recorder.... but alas, I did not. Anyway, there's a nice paved trail for people wanting to work out or whatever around this lake up the road from us. So I wanted to take Evonne over and have her running on this trail. The trick was getting this particular shot.

 

I thought originally that I would set up the two alien bees on either side of the path and use the SB800 on the camera [or something along those lines] so that I had another flash in front.... basically throwing a ton of light at her from all sides to kinda mimic that shot I did of Parvati a while back that looked like a nike add. I don't know why I thought this would work and still be able to capture the stuff around her..... but I did a test shot with my brother and decided that this was a bad idea.

 

So.

 

I asked my friend and always human light stand Sean J. if he thought he could run along side Evonne with the large softbox on one of the bees. He said he thought he could so we tried it.

    

So here's the Strobist info and comedic part:

 

My brother was running along toting the 18lb vagabond - Sean J. holding the lightstand with the Alien Bee 800 with a large softbox on it slightly in front of Evonne and pointed back at her at a little over 1/4 power and triggered with PWplusII. Me with the camera in hand, on continual focus, holding it as low to the ground as I could manage running along in front of them all. We would run until the guys were about to hit a pole that was alongside the path and then we would reset back down the path again.

 

On that note I think I shall invest in some type of cart for toting this stuff around like this. lol. As always, I am very grateful to my helpers on this shoot: Sean J. ( MiCTLaN ), Anna and my brother.

 

It was a little bit of happy luck to have caught the sun shining through the tree there right next to Evonne. I did not add that in in post. I have a couple shots that turned out with the flare from the sun like that but not positioned right there or anywhere where I liked the effect even.

We had so much fun shooting on the streets of Notting Hill. We mave have caused some distractions too :-)
