I was going back through old photos on search of something else, and found these from our trip to Lake Las Vegas last year. Not being a gambler, this is the best part of Las Vegas, if you ask me. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is just outside of Las Vegas, and stunning.
This artwork is from 'The Real Heroes' series that I exhibited last year at The Corner Café in Durban.
Each of these artworks is based on an individual that I know. Each of them either had a tough background or went through a rough time. Every single one of them came out of these times with a positive outlook on life. This makes them heroes in my eyes. The type and medium used in each artwork is dependent on the individual. The short sentence in each artwork is the reason why they maintain a positive outlook.
These are the real heroes.

This tree symbolizes my efforts on Tenaya Canyon.
The title reflects the fact that even though this tree was badly burnt in the heath fire of 2006, it still continues to leaf at the top. It strikes a defiant stance to the surrounding bare heathland.

I've been working with sourdough the last few weeks and am finally getting the kind of oven spring I see in the pictures -- even with the slack dough. Am also getting the hang of slipping the loaf off
the peel onto the baking stone. Super excited.
