For whatever reason, most of the hummingbirds I catch feeding are either females or juveniles. It could be that they just out number the males. The females could be gathering lots of energy for feeding their babies (they catch little bugs for them). Or the males spend lots of time showing off, watching over their territories.
I finally figured out where this guy fed - past tense, as these flowers are all gone. So I waited...and waited. He was a stealth feeder! Sometimes I'd hear him, see him at the flowers, and then he'd be off, chasing another hummingbird or going back to his favorite lookout.
He is catching enough light here that his head feathers are reflecting some color and aren't all black. See how cute he is when you View Large On Black

This one took a couple tries to get the exposure right, but I'm glad I finally got it. :)
Just a day after it experienced two separate mechanical failures and came close to being pulled from service, Metrolink F59PHR 856 charges down the rails once again as it leads an evening train to San Bernardino. Built in 1992, 856 is one of Metrolink's original locomotives, starting from Day 1 of the railroad. It was one of the seven F59PHs that were overhauled in the late-2000s and it served consistently until mid-2020 when it was initially removed from service. It has since made appearances from time to time on work trains and when extra locomotives were needed to cover for those that were in for servicing. It is always a question when 856's last run will be; if this could be the final photo I capture of it in regular service. That day will come, but for now, 856 persists.
We need strength or energy, persistence and last but not least balance in order to move forward.
I watched people doing stand up paddle surfing in False Creek last weekend when I had a walk on Cambie Bridge.

Gone now. Those of us that came here with our cameras will never forget it. These ruins in the woods were full of some mysterious voice that spoke in tongues of light. Artillery rounds for the U. S. Civil War were cast in this foundry.
Now the buildings and the woodland have been scraped from the earth. A clay lined basin containing waste from a paper mill has been installed where these bones stood.

I think this guy has been down in front of the Statehouse every time I've been down there recently. In his power chair with his BLM flag, and today with a megaphone broadcasting a message I couldn't quite make out.

This is at Rideau Ferry Yacht Club Conservation Area.
It was a mild day yesterday with lots of sunshine.
This is at the beach on Lower Rideau Lake. There was a bit of activity on the ice with a number of people locating their ice fishing huts on the frozen lake.
I know they will have a fun season fishing throughout the winter.
I don't play on the ice. I do not have the knowledge or experience.
I do not trust the ice. I am alive because of that. Enough said.
I visit here often. Especially in the winter. During the frozen months the people are here for a walk, with or without a dog. It is a good place to chat with people and learn about their journey, their story, their life.
The gift that is given to us by this place is a serene moment in time.
There is an indescribable benefit or quality to the gift of nature.
It is all sensory though. You feel the wind against you. You hear everything. Sometimes there is no sound at all.
It is a feeling. An experience.
When I am here alone, it is mine. It belongs to me.
I pick up the garbage. How dare they? How could they? They don't get it! Maybe if they come here enough, they will start to understand.
You should come and experience it. It will touch you. It will comfort you. You will appreciate it.
My uncle took this shot with his camera, on the same trip with me and my cousin. It came out really well. He is a beginner and I thought I sahre his shot!
Persistence, perserverence and the willingness to grow and thrive where others fear is the something or other key to life.
Also, I'm taking too many sunflower pictures this year but they are growing like... weeds.

Small waves roll onto the rockshelf at South Avalon
Beach,supporting a whole ecosystem of plant and animal life along the shore.
Its hard to believe that the whole coastline has been defined' and is constantly being refined, by these waves in less benign conditions.
Persistence and Patience.... The love-hate affair between me and this majestic eagle started around a year back. We used to sight this Eagle everyday in our grasslands, where it used to perch on top of the tallest perch and observe...Just observe.. With those watchful eyes... Once we started sighting this one regularly, we developed a routine which we followed.. Sight the bird in the early morning (around 6 am), stop our car around half a km away so that it doesn't get distracted and wait. Simply wait. Sometimes even till 11 am... With all the hope that it would hunt a snake in front of us, someday at least... It wont be an over exaggeration when I say, i used to go late to work on weekdays only because of waiting for that moment :) But things had its way of working out. We never got an opportunity to see it on the ground making kill in front of us... The hunts used to happen away from us many a times and we were just plain unlucky on most occasions.Patience and Persistence.Finally after a close to 2 year wait, the moment came when we saw the Short Toed Snake Eagle try to hunt a Rat snake ... In front of us... ! A moment i've waited for a long time... A moment which was worth it . All of it...
I thought it was impossible to get a shot of lightning with my camera. I mean, it's got a max exposure of four seconds -- hopeless, right? But I was stubbornly optimistic, and set up my tripod, and pressed the shutter... again, and again, and again...
...until... on the 39th shot....
This happened. SUCCESS!!

When macular degeneration took away much of her ability to see "the whole picture" Jane gave up oil painting for paper collage . . . just another way to express the many layers of her long, phenomenal life, shared in an infinite array of mediums.
Jane loved Sedona and visited there every September to absorb the landscape and interpret it on canvas or in journals.
I'm blessed to be surrounded by her art in every corner of my home, so her spirit will live on forever.
