An IV drip provides essential minerals and vitamins to Mom after her surgery in Ward 71 Kandang Kerbau Hospital in Singapore. A 14-cm tumor was discovered in the ovaries when mom complained of bloating in her stomach some months ago. Mom had been in the operating theatre in an operation that overshot by more than 6 hours. She is now recuperating from surgery before undergoing chemotherapy for ovarian cancer.

at the opening night of "a thousand cranes", play written by kathryn miller schultz and performed by the hawaii theatre for youth at tenney theatre.
the play is based on the true story of sadako sasaki, a little girl who survived the horrific atomic bombing of hiroshima and nagasaki. she was 2 years old when the bombs were dropped on Japan and, at the age of 11, she became ill and was diagnosed with leukemia, the "atomic bomb disease". sadako was told by a friend that if she folded a thousand paper cranes, the gods would grant her one wish. "a thousand cranes" is sadako's story, a story of perserverence, determination and hope.
the paper crane has become recognized worldwide as a symbol of peace.
sadako sasaki died on october 25, 1955 at the age of 12 of radiation induced leukemia.

"The Portals of the Past is an unusual little monument at Golden Gate Park. Standing on the shores of Lloyd Lake (just to the west of the DeYoung Museum), these columns actually have an interesting history. During the big earthquake and fire of 1906, most of Nob Hill was flattened by the destruction. However somehow, the entranceway to the mansion of A.N. Towne managed to remain standing. It was later removed and brought over to Golden Gate Park, where it still stands today, as a symbol of the perserverence of San Francisco... working towards an optimistic future, regardless of the tragedy of the past."

Following on from last Sunday, that's Day 202, after my little adventure of being forced to learn how to ride a bike...
Today the lessons continued, much to my dismay, and again, laden with more excuses...
However, after about 20 minutes trying to get my balance, and feel of just riding along [with both feet scooting me forwards], practising what I had learnt last week, I somehow managed to control my balance and off I went, peddling along!
As it turns out, I never knew you could use the turny-bit of the bike to help you find your balance when you start to put your feet on the peddles!
Shau was saying "Shall we call it a day?" after 20 minutes going up and down the street, until... Finally I built up some momentum and got there!
Hurray!
So I can officially say, loud and boldly, Ansy can now ride a bike!
I must say it's all thanks to Shau and Mel, supporting and standing there on stand-by just in case I fell over, they were being forceful and sometimes I need a bit of force to get motivated... But it was through their perserverence that I too perservered, so thanks Shau and Mel :) Praise the Lord!
Now that I've gotten over this hurdle in life, having now found balance on two wheels. I can go onto bigger and better things. Like a real scooter! ;) [perhaps by the end of this year? Hmmm!] much to my mother's dismay.
Still, more practising on a bike me thinks. I have yet to learn how to ride up and down hill. Meh. And I can only do right-hand turns, not left. But still... I can still ride a bike finally! Hurrah! Nobody can mock me now! Mwhahaha!
