After seeing a Perry Como TV special in the mid-1980s, I had a dream I saw a commercial for a jug wine called Perry Como. The commercial featured him (with his wire-rim glasses) on a yacht singing about the product while the camera would cut to scenes of young couples on the yacht raising their glasses like a typical wine commercial from the time. I've finally created the label as I recalled it from the dream. (He did record "Days of Wine & Roses" and "Sunshine Wine" in the 1960s, and Google indicates there's a Perry Como Cafe and Wine Bar somewhere.)

The Perry sisters' pictures were glued into a family album by my husband's grandfather. After extensive research, I cannot find them on the family tree. I believe they may have been neighbours in Toronto.
Their father, Edward James Perry was a telegraph operator in Dundas and Toronto, according to census information. Their mother was Sarah Maria Overholt.

1885 Francis Powell and Francis Hanmer founded Powell and Hanmer in the Summer of 1885, their first advertisement appearing in November 1885.
1890 Patent for velocipede lamps. Francis Powell and Francis Hanmer.[
1913 April. Advert for headlamps for cars.
1914 Built their second factory in Rocky Lane for dynamo lighting sets.
1920 Dynamo for motor cars.
1929 Powell and Hanmer Ltd, which Lucas acquired that year, was, at that time, its principal competitor in non-electrical equipment for cycles and motor cycles. When a director of that company joined the board of Austin, Lucas feared that he might encourage Powell and Hanmer to produce electrical equipment for supply to Austin and that the association might also affect Lucas's quotations to other large vehicle manufacturers. Lucas made an offer to Powell & Hanmer and purchased the business for £500,000.

Perry’s Paddock, named after Jack Perry who bred racehorses here at the turn of the 20th century. The paddock was a popular venue for big sports, horse races and picnic days. Limestone ruins on the site include a two-storey shed and single room attached cottage that has been restored.
Standing a short way behind Perry's Cottage is this bunkhouse. It is not original. It is a replica constructed in the early 1990's but is faithful to the design and materials of the building which stood here originally, apart from the tin roof.

Designed by Joseph W. Yost, the handsome Perry County Courthouse (to which I would like to return well before sunset, because just before sunset is when I found it!) is a three-story ashlar stone Richardsonian Romanesque beauty featuring a clock tower (no wild-haired scientists spotted, ALAS). This truly is a grand courthouse, especially considering its rather grand location. Based on what I have read, the inside is handsome as well. Let's hope none of us ever find out the hard way. ;)
All over the building's exterior are reliefs of animals, plants, and even the occasional person, some of which I'll be doing my best to show you in the future. My guess is they are all related to Ohio, because what else are you going to put onto the building?
(Built at a cost of $143,000, which would amount to a bit over $4.5 million in 2023 dollars, and you'll just have to believe me when I say it is worth every penny.)
