Perhaps I am “pushing the limit” when taking the liberty of using a famous artist’s illustration and using her artwork to create my own, personal interpretation of said artwork – albeit strictly for non-commercial purpose.
In the subject instance, I downloaded a work by Carrie Ballantyne (signed as C L Ballantyne) as shown on the left. Her superb illustration titled; “The Cowboy Way”. Using Ms. Ballantyne’s artwork, I then digitally colored the illustration and in a final step, utilized Topaz Simplify to complete my artistic interpretation as seen on the right.
On a personal note, let me say I am totally enthralled by Carrie L. Ballantyne's extraordinary artwork. She is indeed a highly talented and accomplished artist.
The source of the artist’s original artwork can be found HERE
A Short Bio of the artist, Carrie L. Ballantyne
For the past 30 years, Carrie Ballantyne has been drawing and painting the people of today’s ranching and cowboy culture with depth and texture and an emphasis on authenticity. She is best known for her powerful yet sensitive portraits that chronicle men and women of the contemporary West with a timeless quality.
“The individuals themselves inspire much of my art,” Ballantyne says. “I enjoy painting representational and intimate portraits of real people – most often family members, personal friends and neighbors.”
Profiled in numerous periodicals over the years, Ballantyne is the recipient of various awards and honors from distinguished Western art shows and museums. The Prix de West continues to be a favorite venue. “Showing my art alongside many of my heroes at the National Cowboy Museum is an exhilarating and humbling experience,” she says, “an inspiration I look forward to each year.”
I am hoping there will not be any legal (or otherwise) repercussions over what I have done here. My intensions were, of course, purely for entertainment purposes. Should there any problems what-so-ever, I will promptly remove this post from flickr photo-share.
Hope you'all enjoy .................
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown released their one-hit-wonder single, Fire, in 1968. Arthur Brown was noted for putting lit candles on his head. I think I may have got it wrong when I tried it! Yikes.
We're Here ignites flames today.
Perhaps the last of this years current moths i shall put on my stream (unless i can find a decent Mottled umber to photograph!) I managed to get them to line up nicely on my bark, two males and a female, although one did get a bit lively!
Perhaps one of the most beautiful Cattleya hybrids ever created by Ernest Hetherington, who just passed away at the grand age of 99. A mentor of mine and many others who grow and appreciate orchids. He was one of those most responsible for my early learning and encouragement in orchids while I was employed at Stewart Orchids in the 1980's. RIP Mr. Hetherington.
Perhaps the most vandalised cemetery I have come across. Even this relatively recent modest wooden crucifix hadn't been spared. It made an interesting contrast to the headstones of the more affluent C19th inbabitants of an area that was once the industrial powerhouse of Leeds.
Perhaps I too would have preferred a completely new movie as a sequel to Ghostbusters II rather than a reboot. I do like the new Ecto-1 and the notion of female Ghostbusters, however, so I feel they make a nice addition to my movie vehicle collection.
Perhaps the prettiest photo prop on the Greenfield Village property is this barn-red cider mill, which contains presses which are designed to crush apples and make that sweet, tangy drink we all love. In this image, Detroit & Lima Northern Locomotive #7 rolls past that cider mill, giving us a little smoke show as she heads back to the village entrance just before the facility closes for the day. While rail photographers love this little structure, the railroaders tell me they have mixed emotions about it. The track here, which wraps tightly around the west side of that building unfortunately makes it a bit difficult for the engine crews to clearly see the unguarded grade crossing, giving them little time to react to pedestrians who may not be paying the proper level of attention.
I had been up to the start of the walk before. Perhaps it was the weather hanging in the wind or the lack of time or the danger signs warning of a real risk of death, but I decided not to go that time. But with my wife safely dropped off at the nearby hospital A&E I felt more motivated to give it another go yesterday. It's quite an adventurous walk up Glen Nevis where the steep valley feeds into a deep gorge between two converging mountains. As you go up, the large volume of water (it had rained on and off for the last couple of days) cascades and thunders down and over house sized boulders which have worn the canyon sides with smooth curvaceous curves. The path isn't particularly steep but is broken with small waterfalls, crossed on stepping stones, and rocky outcrops. Most of these have plenty toe holds and rough steps but fallen autumn leaves mean you have to be wary of slippage. For the drop off on one side of the path is severe and often vertical for perhaps up to 100 feet or more. The warning signs at the start of the walk are important and very relevant. After about a mile, possibly less, gradually going uphill after you pass the bit where the gorge is darkest and the noise of rushing water most thunderous, suddenly the path takes a bend. The noise subsides, the sky lightens and you find yourself in a level valley, opening out across towards the 'iconic' Steall waterfall. I must admit I was a bit disappointed, it's not as amazing or wonderful as I expected. It's touted as the second highest waterfall in Scotland with one single drop of 120 metres. That's quite high, but looking at the waterfall I couldn't quite work out where that was from, and to where. After all, when it rains heavily closer to my home in Acharacle I can think of at least four places with far more impressive and dramatic waterfalls, although most of them are hard to get to across impossible terrain. I should have realised why Steall is so fabled, with tourists from all over the world venturing in white trainers and flipflops up the same dangerous path. Fucking hell, it's Harry Potter again! Apparently the waterfall features in one or more scenes, like the Glenfinnan viaduct and Dumbledore island. If only I'd got JK to mention Innes House Bed & Breakfast in a Harry Potter story we would be inundated!
So a little unimpressed (although the autumn colours are fantastic) and on weary legs I headed back down in the fading light. Whether it was the heavy backpack or an eager dog pulling on her lead I slipped crossing one of those wet rocky outcrops, causing me to overbalance as my foot came up against a loop of tree root and I headed towards the precipice just at the place where you don't want to go. I knew it was a close thing without taking a minute to look back and think about it, returning home with a slightly twisted ankle, but nothing worse. I've been on many such trails in South West USA National Parks where they put chains on posts to mark the edge of precarious paths and give something for people to hang on to. They must be easily installed in rugged landscapes. Why don't we have such things in the UK where they would make a difference?

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Nikon coolpix 8700

Perhaps the most outstanding work by Antoni M Gallissa. This large building, built in 1902, has undergone major modifications. This showcase of decorative details is clearly influenced by Domenech i Montaner. Perticularly outstanding are the extraordinary ground floor and bay windows and balconies of the main facade.

Warwick, Southern Queensland and it's early morning when we find a couple of seniors waiting for the bus. I am not sure if Haidley's Panoramic Coaches runs regular transport services or day tours from Warwick, its website is non-committal. I suspect the latter.
Anyway, let's hope this couple had a lovely day wherever they went, Toowoomba to the north for shopping perhaps or Stanthorpe to the south for some wine, cheese, olives, chocolates, fruit and all the rest the Granite Belt of Queensland has to offer.
Shot these guys down at the Venice Boardwalk. Trying some new background ideas.... hope they work.

Perhaps spring is on the way...
Taken with my mobile phone, processed on the mobile phone with Snapseed.
Yes, I think it's not a kind creature. I couldn't believe my eyes.
I consider this one of my best photos ever (no macrolense, no fancy camera).

Who knows, perhaps the flight
of the bird you wound remains,
and perhaps flowers survive
caresses in us, in their ground.

Perhaps native New Yorkers or regular visitors to the city don't notice this anymore, but as a first time visitor, it struck me that the ESB was seemingly omnipresent! You'd be just walking around and look up and over your shoulder and whoa....there it is! An awesome sight that shrieks "yup, you're in New York City"
Ok, perhaps not THE Face Rock at Bandon, but certain seemed like one of them, especially at midnight on a dark beach. Or perhaps I just have too active an imagination.
Anyhow, I just returned from a large, looping road trip through Oregon with Aaron that ran from Sparks Lake in Bend, to Bandon and then north to Neskowin. I shot lots of film, lots of digital and therefore have my work cut out for me over the next few days.
Until I get more editing done I figured I would leave this image of lighted clouds crashing over the rocks along Bandon beach.
Oh and just for fun, an excerpt regarding the legend of THE Face Rock, just because I am always fascinated to learn a bit about the places I travel to:
Legend has it (from the Nah-So-Mah tribe) that Ewanua, a beautiful Indian princess was visiting tribes along the coastline with her father, Chief Siskiyou. While the local tribes lived in constant fear of Seatka, the evil spirit of the ocean, Ewanua and the other members of her mountain-born tribe held no fear of the evil one. Following a great feast set in celebration of their visit, Euwana carried her pets (one dog and a mother cat and her kittens) out to the edge of the sea with her before swimming far out from shore.
All of a sudden, a fearsome creature grabbed her, and Komax, her dog, fearing for Ewanua's life swam out into the dark water and bit Seatka. Hurt and furious with the animal, Seatka kicked off the dog and threw it, along with the cat and her kittens, out into the sea. Filled with rage over losing her beloved pets and knowing the power that lay in Seatka's eyes, Ewanua from then on, refused to look directly at him. Today, she lies in the ocean, looking skyward, continuing her refusal to look into Seatka's eyes, who sits nearby. Her beloved Komax, her cat and the kittens lie to the west of her, waiting in vain for their mistress to arise from the cold ocean.

I would like to thank all of you lovely people on this way for your constant support and love for my work. It means so much to me. A big big thank you to each and everyone of you!
My apologize for being slow at the moment here on flickr with commenting, but my RL and SL keep me real busy.
As some of you have noticed, a good friend of mine Daniel was in town for few days. Like always, it was only fitting to go up to Kuala Lumpur's vantage points - with the help of local friends off course!

Perhaps not the most sensible shoes to wear on a damp morning in East London... artwork by Nathan Bowen.
Perhaps these look a bit more illustrative than realistic (if I knew what realistic looked like in this context, which is quite unlikely to be the way I've portrayed it here). Still, nobody has seen this up close, so it might be spot on.
It is top fun (for me).
Jökulsárlón, deemed as one of the natural wonders of Iceland is the most popular tourist stop. It is a glacier lagoon which recedes from the Atlantic Ocean The lake although not very long is quite deep (about 660 feet). It is an amazing experience to sail in a unique boat which takes one fairly close to the icebergs. The colours and shapes of the iceberg are very fascinating. Hollywood movies such as 'Die Another Day' and 'Tomb Raider' have been shot here.
