For being a small city, Pittsburgh sure does have some incredible vantage points and none are better than Mt. Washington. This is a shot of the Steel City from the Duquesne Incline, located in the heart of restaurant area of the main drag, Grandview Avenue.
As always, you can read about the processing I've done on this shot and all my images on on my website.

Lately I got interest in B/W architect photos. I spent a full day in Den Haag (in the Netherlands) to do few shots and see the outcome. I used exposure fusion and I merged (when needed) the main subject in HDR with the sky. Masking a building is relatively simple given the straight and neat line. Comments are welcomed
Amsterdam. I took this HDR and then converted in B/W with Nick Silver. The black and withe makes the structure more powerful and gives a 3-d like effect. The Sky and the snow create a nice contrast. I personally love the reflection of the big glass windows. I used Perfect Effect to add a slight glow effect and eventually in Aperture I added a soft vignette to focus the eyes on the main subject. The buildings in the back are distracting but I do not like to remove permanent objects form the scape.

The Coyote art piece was very popular, its head would rotate but after a few days Rangers had to put up warnings as people were falling off it causing the most accidents on the playa.
May the light of the season surround you at Christmastime and into a Happy New Year.
Wishing you all love, light and laughter.
This is another from my archives reworked for today. It's the Point Wilson Light in Port Townsend, Washington.

This is the Barcelona Sagrada Familia entrance. I did a B/W HDR (3 shots at 0.7 stops). I then merged with another shot for the cloud sky. Comments welcomed
I had the opportunity to have a workshop in this beautiful hotel in Scheveningen. This is my first HDR and fisheye photo. I liked the monochrome conversion the most. Comments welcomed
Since the lights were off, but for the natural light from the stained glass, I needed to light paint the angel figure.
Doors barred
Lights off
Emptiness emitting through darkened glass
The lies you told
Secrets you shared
In the wake of your deceit
I was left holding the pieces
Abandoned, alone, double crossed

This is a HDR of a modern building taken in Barcelona. This time I preferred the colour version due to the spots of light against the dark and cold surface of the glass. I liked the clear sunset and small arch coming out form the surface. I chose an angle to emphasise the cylindric curve of the building. I used to dark the pic to be in harmony with the phasing out of the light. Comments welcomed.
These steel initials adorn the exterior of the Franklin Brewing Company building. Located in the Boston neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, it was an active brewery from 1894 until the start of Prohibition in 1918. It has since been used as a storage facility.
Playing around with the high pass sharpening filter in Perfect Effects, see also my blog post
I find sharpening in lightroom can exaggerate digital noise in higher ISO and night photos. This sharpening did a decent job on the moon but left the deep blue of the sky largely free of speckles
